stagedoor hunting at broadway shows
i know people wait for autographs at the stagedoor after a performance but sometimes for big hollywood performers it becomes a mob scene (daniel craig & hugh jackman), so my question is has anyone had luck meeting an actor before the performance on their way into the theater? if so, when do you arrive?

Ironically, The 'Steady Rain' Playbill actually had an article in it about collecting Autographs Via the Stage door!!
I'll scan it in and post it tomorrow.
I found it very imformative.

Ta-da! Had time tonight to do it, So Here's the scanned article.
This can also be found in the 'Hamlet' Playbill as well.
Hope it answers most of your questions.

I got Hugh Jackman's autograph while I was waiting for my mother to see if she could get tickets to "The Boy From Oz," so yes, stagedoor before the show works.

It's actually easier before. Most walk or get out of a cab/car and walk in. it's not a mob scene like after the show. The trick is knowing when they typically arrive. I have a friend who does that and got ALL the big names like Jackman, Craig, gandolfini, ect in 2009. He got photos with all of them and in many cases multiple autographs.
Obviously your best chance is the time/location with the least # of people. After a play everyone who wants an autograph goes to the stage door, so much so often the big names just leave out the front door.
