IRCs are a coupon, that can be redeemed for stamps at the post office in virtually any country.

You can buy them at the post office. How much they cost depends on the country you buy it in. Likewise, how much they can be redeemed for depends on the country they're redeemed in.

Hi theaterdood45,

IRCs are valid to cover the postage of an item up to 20g, so generally you would need two or three to cover your return postage of an SAE. :)

If you are looking to buy them, ask for International Reply Coupons in the post office, as some workers will not know what IRC means.

Good luck with your requests! {up}

As far as I know, that's incorrect. An IRC is worth the minimum amount of postage necessary to airmail a letter internationally. For example, here in the US, an IRC can cover postage up to 1oz (28g), while in Australia, an IRC covers postage up to 50g.

Oh right - thanks for the info. I've just looked on the Royal Mail website (where I had originally got the figure of 20g from) and they've now updated the page, since the expiry of the old edition of IRC: http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/cont ... d=27000662 so in Britain they are worth 62p of stamps. I've checked the Royal Mail website before when using IRCs in the past and I'm sure that it was 20g then. perhaps this has changed now?

It does make it more difficult to work out how many you need though, I suppose.

Well, according to this
http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/cont ... tId=400036

62p covers 10g internationally, so if an IRC is currently worth 62p in the UK, then an IRC will cover 10g.

IRCs definitely are confusing since every country has it's own set of prices and such.. it might be worth making a post listing all the prices and values of IRCs by country.
