How to get a personalised reply?

Hey guys!

I'm really wanting to write a letter to my favourite Aussie singer, if I handwrite a heartfelt letter do you think there will be a greater chance of them replying? I was going to thank them for having inspired me to want to sing and get over my shyness with their latest track.

Anyone got any advice? I know it's probably a long shot but I may as well give it a go!

There's usually a 50/50 chance you'll get a reply. But if it's hand-written, those generally seem to get a better response than if it was typed. Can't guarantee that they'll write you a personal letter back, but I've gotten those before and they mean so much to me.

It depends on the celebrity and how many piles of mail they are going through. My ten cents worth of advice: be as sincere and genuine in your LOR. Another collector on this site summed it up nicely:
Para #1 Express how excited you are to be able to write to them
Para #2 Mention a body of work that the celebrity has done that impacted your life (or the life of someone else) Tell a little bit bout yourself to connect the dots between you and them
Para #3 Here's the pitch: humbly beg them to sign your article for you or for someone else
Para #4 Wish them well in their future production,project, life

In Para #2 Put your soul into it and pretend like you only have 30 seconds to make an impression on a celebrity who has never met you. Really get into it. Have a conversation but keep it brief. There are eight more four foot tall mail bags to go through. (hyperbole)

In Para #3, remember if you don't ask, you don't get. Some (not all) celebrities are skittish about signing articles for fear that someone is gonna make a buck off of it and the celebrity won't receive a percentage. A personalized autograph request puts their mind at ease that this is going to someone. No one on eBay is gonna buy a signed photo "best wishes always to Billy get well soon xoxox celebrity ______"

And yes I have asked for autographs for members of my family. And yes they have personalized it to that family member. Explain to them, that you realize this is unusual to request an autograph on behalf of others but could you make "TO Aunt so-an-so"?

Handwriting a LOR is great if your penmanship is legible to all, not just to you. If your penmanship is lacking, type it out. That's what I do.
