Really would be intersted in how you write your letter to whomever you are trying to get an autograph from. For me, I try and let them I appreciate thier work and then list my few favorite things about them. Also its very important to keep the letter short under a page and very to the point. I usually then end the letter with an autograph request such as "I know you are a very busy person but it would be a real honor if you could sign my.....". Always include a SASE and 2 of my own printed pictures. Realistically you are spending about 5 dollars between postage and printing the photos but you can make a cool piece of signed art and frame it depending on how creative you can be. If you are trying to get a movie cast signed piece always request two autographs and explain that you are going to send to the other celebrties. That way you always have a backup in case one gets lost in the mail. Remember that most celebs do read thier mail and if they dont directly thier assistant(s) will pass them a message if it is worthwhile, so always remember besides receiving thier autograph you always have a good chance of relating a message to them.
Good luck and happy collecting!

Re: How to write a good letter
My letters are all the same style,
Tell them that I am a big fan of (show/film) and their work.
Something about the show and them that I like.
Thanks for previous work and wish them the best for the future.
Politely request them to sign my item and thank them in advance.
Always try and keep it to less than one page of A4 (handwritten). Occassionally I've gone onto a second page, but only for a few lines.

Re: How to write a good letter
Write what comes from your heart and it sounds more sincere. I usually mention something about a movie or show that they may have forgotten that I've seen. Most people remember stars for their most famous roles. They must like it if you remember them from something minor that they may have appeared in before they became a real big star.

Over 9,000 requests sent since 1986.

Re: How to write a good letter
^ I like that! Write what comes from your heart. Can't give much better advice than that. To be a fan dosen't mean you have to be a great writer with perfect spelling, structure, and grammar.
personally I always use this formula:
Paragraph 1: Introduction, why I am writing
P 2: What made me a fan, what my favorite projects they did are
P 3: The request and a bit on why I sent this item.
P 4: Closing statements, thanks, well wishes.
Occasionally I will P.S. a question or quick comment about a project they have coming in the future.

Re: How to write a good letter
Hey
Heres how I set out my letters...
Firstly I write about 3/4 lines introducing myself, my name, age, where Im from and a few of my hobbies.
Then I write a paragraph and a half about why Im a fan of who Im writing to. My favourite project that they have done etc.
Finally I end by saying something along the lines of 'I knwo your very buisy but I would appreciate it if you could sign the picture that I have included please?'
Then I sign my name
I usually include my own pictures/posters with my letters and I always include a SASE.
Hope I have helped
