Re: 2010 MLB Thread
Well, the Pirates have a new managment team in place these days. The old GM was horrible, and traded away players and depleted the farm system at the same time while getting nothing in return. The new GM has set about correcting that and has pretty much completed their task of restocking the minors. The problem with constantly trading away players is that it's tough for the guys to develop chemistry. They do have a decent team in place now and the only holes are at third base and possibly catcher (Doumit is good but has a history of injuries). Of course, they don't really want to plug the hole at third since they have a prospect (Pedro Alverez) who they expect to be able to fill it either later this year or next year. I'm not saying they will be contenders, but I do think they will suprise a few people this year.
There is really going to be some pressure put on management to start producing a winning season -- the ever popular Mario Lemuex and Co. tendered an offer to buy the team, which was turned down.

Re: 2010 MLB Thread
I'm a huge A's fan and been one my whole life. I think this year will be a improvement over last year but not by much. I doubt that we will win the West and maybe not even the Wild Card. But I hope that we are just still in the running by the end of the season.
Re: 2010 MLB Thread
Im an astros fan, not a lot of hope here
Re: 2010 MLB Thread
In some strange twist, the Mets somehow won 7 straight and is now in first place in the NL East. I can only hope they'll still be there come October.
Re: 2010 MLB Thread
It seemed like the Braves would be at least 2nd place at the start of the season, and now, they are in last place in the NL East. This is just like last year! Heyward had an awesome start and is sorta in a slump right now and Schafer did that last year too........

Re: 2010 MLB Thread
I wasn't too sure about the Braves this year.. after all, they've got two has-beens playing the corners (Chipper, Glaus) and two of the most overrated starting outfielders (Melky, McLouth). Pitching seems good, but it's sort of a hit-or-miss.
The Phillies extended Ryan Howard's contract by 5 years for $125 million the other day. That's pretty good news for the other NL East and big market teams.

Re: 2010 MLB Thread
Speaking of Atlanta, I'm tentatively planning a trip to Pittsburgh to catch the Braves vs. my beloved Pirates. I'm thinking of going Friday & Saturday, and then catching the Pirates AA affiliate (Altoona Curve) on Sunday in Erie, PA.

Re: 2010 MLB Thread
Hey packrat, would you be able to 50/50 anybody at the Pirates Vs. Braves games? Let me know, please. Thanks.

Re: 2010 MLB Thread
Sorry that I missed this before I left, but then and again it turned out to be a lousy graphing experience. Many of the Braves would not sign, and most of those that did would only sign one. Unfortunately some of the Pittsburgh graphers were making fun of the Braves players so they refused to sign.coolmoors wrote:Hey packrat, would you be able to 50/50 anybody at the Pirates Vs. And getting the Pirates at home is very difficult since they drive into the stadium. I only got one guy (LaRoche) who walked in on Saturday. The players didn't come out of the clubhouse until 6:30 for the 7:05 start and just before they did, the ushers kicked everyone out of the area who didn't have tickets for the field level seats.
On the bright side, I did get lucky enough to get Don Sutton! It made my whole trip worth it.
Next time I make a road trip I'll try to remember to PM you so you know. Or I'll post it here. Maybe we can work things out.
