Here's a link that can help you craft your letter: http://www.wikihow.com/Write-a-Fan-Letter The only thing in it that I disagree with is the part about telling the celeb if you have a crush on them. That sounds a bit too stalker-ish to me. And being a guy, I never compliment a woman celeb on their looks or the clothes they wear, since I get a bit paranoid that they'll think I'm a pervert or something.

And I don't believe one word of what you said, Alex. I've actually gotten compliments about my letters, and even short notes every once in a while. It does make a difference. There was a stage manager (or whatever she was) who gave us tips about writing letters in this forum a month or so ago. It was her job to pass along fan mail to the celebs VV. She said that anything that was only two or three lines long got round-filed.

Like I said, believe whatever you like. The idea that a stage manager cares enough to filter fan mail based on "quality" is so absurd I don't know what to tell you.

Does it make any sense that a celeb would spend hours a day reading your letters or really cares about what they contain? The odd one (past prime, don't get many fan letters) might but anyone of any stature has staff to deal with it.

However, I am not here to ruin your delusions. Write what you will. I get my stuff back signed and that's all I care about.

I never expect a big name to read my letter or "care" about me. i do expect the secretary or "PA" to get a pile and when there is 50 requests with heartfelt letters and 50 with "I want you to sign this" I guarantee the 50 heartfelt get signed.

Saying your sister is in the business means little to nothing. Another member is a tour manager and he flat out said if you write amything less than a paragraph or all you write is please sign this he keeps the stuff.

I know a celeb get piles of mail and can't sign all of it. Why would they sign for the "ebay" requests when they have real fanmail also??? Believe whatever you want but with ebay I doubt three lines cuts it for the most part. If it goes to an agency paid to handle fanmail then i see it because they make $ per reply.

I'll keep up what I'm doing. I have been having less and less come back each year so I can't start phoning in the letters with the chance it will make it even worse.

Then you are in the wrong hobby. For most of us, it's about a personal connection. Some people want to get the most out of something with the least amount of work. The rest of us get much more satisfaction out of getting a reward from putting something into it.

If you don't mind please tell us where your sister works. It would be great to have an agency to send to, where all I have to write is 20 words.

I must have stepped in with the religious fanatics.

THEY DON'T READ FANMAIL!

You don't have a personal connection with them, they don't give a fuck about who you are, why is this so hard to accept???

You believe in an industry famous for auto-pens, pre-prints, stamps, and secretarials that celebs spend hours reading your "about me" and actually care? Really? You believe that?

My sister howled when I asked her about fanmail (I am willing to bet that you all have some of her secretarials when she was a lowly PA).

Whatever, It's an argument I can't win. You all want to believe so badly that celeb X is sitting there rapt in your personal story and why they inspire you that you fail to see that it's a job to them.

Write your fan letters in whatever way you choose...and believe whatever makes you sleep better at night...

(My sister works with a specific producer doing Disney films...so she works for Disney rather than a specific agency...and she no longer deals with fanmail...although I do get sweet autographs from time to time when she is working with somebody I care about)

Are you serious? You must be a religious fanatic because you beleve you are speaking the gospel. If "they don't read any of their mail" how is it so many of us have hand written notes with specific comments about the letter. A secretary? Sorry but the writing matches.

Obviously some don't read it, it's not possible with their schedules. But for every 1 who dosen't read them 10 do.

Actually, I take that as a compliment. It just so happens that I am a Christian. Nice to see you noticed.

In any event, it's always true that you get out of it what you put into it.
