Question about sending to Broadway theatre shows?

Unread post by zipbags »

I am looking to send something to an actor on Broadway. The show starts previews April 6th (a week and a half from now). If I sent something now is it a mistake or should I wait until it opens? What I am asking is this...Are the actors at the theatre now doing rehearsals?

Thanks!

It all depends on how much fanmail each actor gets. If you send it now, you're letter may be one of the first ones they get and you might get an early response. :) Just remember that it usually takes 2-3 days to get to the venue... depending on where you're from it may take a little longer. And yes they are there doing rehearsals. The staff usually saves the mail sent to the actors... from what I've seen they are pretty good at forwarding if you're early or if you're even late. I also saw some successes even after the show was done and over with. I myself usually write to them a week before the show opens. :) Just recently, I wrote to Abigail Breslin a month before her show opened and got a success a few days ago. As for A Little Night Music, people who wrote them early had the best chance for a signed playbill. I haven't seen any of those sent out recently. Every well known actor/actress gets bombarded with mail (even Stage Directors for signed playbills of the cast) ... especially when word gets out on here. I would say go for it! Hope that helps!

I wouldn't send it out before a show opens. Rehearsals must be a busy time for all concerned, and the chances of a letter being misplaced is probably a lot higher during a time when so much is going on in the theatre. To be safe, I would make sure your letter is there for when previews start - maybe a few days after they have started. As ScarletPimpernel once told me, if it's a revival then there should be no problem sending during the previews as there won't be any changes, whereas a new show many have lots of things to change, so then your best bet would be to send when the show opens officially.

I think it's just safer to wait a bit.

There's a topic on something like this in the autograph collecting section (I believe) and the member talks about the best time to send to plays, and if I'm not mistaken he/she said during previews. So, I'd go ahead and send. :)
