Metallica IP Success

Unread post by jeries »

This is my first post in the forum...
I've been reading this forum for months, and thought i'd finally join in.
I'm 24 and a pro guitarist and have played with several notable artists and have had a lot of experiences with 'celebrities' mostly musicians, and thought I'd share some of my experiences with you because I've enjoyed reading about all of yours.

I've been in the Metallica fan club since 2003, 10 people are selected from each show to meet the group, through an online lottery. the 2004 tour i did not get selected. in 2008 I luckily was able to attend a rehearsal show and got a hi-5 from Rob the bassist, i attended the Phoenix show the next day also (I'm from/Live in Phx)

I really wanted to meet the band so badly, i put my name in the lottery for almost every show on the tour. I got an email Oct 30 saying "Congratulations you won the coveted meet and greet for DENVER COLORADO" the show was election day Nov 4 (a few days after i got notified)

Got online, and booked a flight to Denver ($450) , leaving a 6 am Nov 4 (which would give me time to catch several other flights in case mine was canceled.

Drove to the hotel, got ready for the show and met the band.... here are photos...

Got my Death Magnetic Vinyl singed and also my Black Album- which i already had signed by Jason Newsted, so now i have my black album signed by James, Kirk, Rob, Lars and Jason.

All the guys were so nice... Talked to James and Lars the longest, both so nice. Kirk was being pressured by their 'wranglers' that they had to go and had an interview to go to, and was really getting on Kirk for it, when he was only half way through meeting everyone- but he looked at all the people there and kept on telling him "let me finish, it will take me 5 min to get through everyone, i dont care" and continued (quickly) to sign for everyone and take photos with everyone he could....

The trip cost me about $1000 ( i still had to buy a $120 show ticket- although if i had bought the ticket 2 weeks in advance although not possible i could have saved half the total trip total) I got to see metallica 3 times in 2 weeks, I saw the tour a total of 4 times, and it was worth every penny.
