I'm new at this and want to request some autographs for my girlfriend as a surprise graduation present.
Should I be writing these letters by hand or can you type them as well?
Also, do you think I'd have any luck requesting that they address the autograph to her, for example "To Mary..."

Re: Sending Request Letters - Typed versus Hand Written?
Hi Ryan!
Welcome here! ;)
It's up to you. You can type them or hand-write them. I usually type them on a PC and after hand-write my letter. But it's up to you. Some of us think it's better to hand write them, others will disagree...
To answer you 2nd question-it depends who are you writing to. Ask politely if they could personalize the photo for Mary and you'll see
Good luck with your request!

Yo Ryan!!
Cool to see another member on here with the same name! In my seven years of collecting, I've found I get MUCH better replies from handwritten letters Vs. typed. I sometimes include a small card with questions on it for the celed to fill out and one of the questions I ask is: "When recieving fanmail do you prefer typed or handwritten letters? Why?"
all of the ones I get back say "Handwritten" as they show more character and the celeb knows you took the time to actually sit down and put your comments and thoughts on paper for them to read.
Though I did get one that said "Typed" but he was an older celeb and had a hard time reading some people's handwriting.
As for personalizing, sure you can ask them that!! I always ask the the photos I send be personlized to me. 90% of the time they are.
Hope that helps you!! If you have any other questions, fell free to ask!

Hand-written is the way to go
Typed letters always seem very impersonal and generic.
