Translations? (specifically English to Japanese)

Unread post by echoamaru »

Hi all! Hope you're doing well today and have received many nice things in your mailboxes! :D

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried translating their letter for a celeb's convenience? If so, how did you go about it?

I've decided I want to write to a famous Japanese person, who I know does not speak English. I thought it would be a mark of respect (as well as increasing the chances of my letter being read!) to send a Japanese translation with my original English version. The problem comes in that I do not speak Japanese.

The letter is longer than my usual ones, at about 660-ish words, but is about a page of typed A4. Can anyone suggest how I could go about getting a translation? (Or even, is there anyone on here who might be interested in translating for me? I'm based in the UK, so if you're overseas, I could maybe send you some UK stamps, in trade, for your trouble?)

Who knows! Open to ideas! Please let me know! :0)

A friend of mine is studying Japanese so may be able to help, if no one else can, but remember, the Japanese system of writing is very different to ours.
Favourite: David Tennant IP, John Barrowman IP, Patrick Stewart IP, Catherine Tate VV.
Newest: John Simm IP, Suranne Jones IP, Jonathan Groff IP.

Do you know what you plan to write in? Hiragana? Katakana?
I'm not fluent but I can help a little with basic phrases ^_^

Thanks for your replies osiris and Icena!

I've now done a little research (ie. investigated via Wikipedia!) into Japanese script and language, and this person's contact location (near to Tokyo). I'm probably more confused, but more appreciative of the difficulty of what I am asking.

From what I can tell, hiragana, katakana and romaji are recognised throughout Japan... unless there is a reason for using one over the other (if there is, please tell me!) I would be happy for assistance with any form!
