I have just joined, as I am hoping to collect a load of autographs for a fundraiser for my local amdram group in the autumn... already made use of a lot of addresses from this site in the past week or so, but I was just wondering... what, in general is the success rate of getting replies?
(bear in mind I am sending photos and SAE!)
Thanks in advance for all advice and any useful hints!

Collecting autographs to fundraise for an award winning, non-profit community theatre group that I co-founded with a friend in 2005, to keep up its work in these tough times...

It all depends on who you are sending: if you send to a lot of A listers, many of them don't sign at ALL, but some lesser knowns do.
Photos and a SAE really increase your chances as well as you telling them about the fundraiser. I can't put a number on mine but good luck.

Hi BossC
Thanks. Yes, I am doing the photos and SAE's thing and a nice letter explaining about the autograph being for the fundraiser and what the aims of the fundraiser are. I am writing to a complete mixture of celebrities, A list and otherwise.
So far one local TV presenter has sent back a photo, she actually did it by return post, amazingly quick) and sent me an email to say it was on its way. That's my first success so far but I only started writing off a week ago, hehe.

Re: Newbie question- what is your success percentage?
It's very difficult to say a success rate, considering the length of time some replies take. I've had ones come back that were over a year old. So I have no idea if the ones I am still waiting for will come back or not.
Good luck on your collection. Some times, writing about a fundraiser gets unexpected results. I remember quite a few people have posted here saying that items of clothing have been sent to auction, Graham Norton sent a jacket he had worn on one of his shows, and Coronation Street sometimes send clothing too. Obviously, this is rare, but sometimes people are very generous!

It helps to look up all of the people you want on the database. If you see a lot of successes from them, then you are more likely to get a response.
I tend to only send to celebs that have successes in the database with a few exceptions. For every 10 autograph requests I send out, I usually get 8 or 9 back.
Good luck!
