Tom Hanks Sucess!
Got a call today that Tom Hanks was filming his newest movie Larry Crowne at a K-Mart near where I lived.
It was the last day of filming and since I lived two blocks away, I figured, why not, and took the chance that he was in one of his better moods.
In one of my past post I told the readers of FanMail that he totally stiffed his fans at the premiere of Toy Story 3 and didn't sign autographs for anybody. I knew if I went to the K-Mart I'd be taking a huge chance of getting anything. But I figured what have I got to lose? It was worth a shot.
I got to the K-Mart around three in the afternoon. The only people I saw were lookiloos and shoppers. No dealers or collectors whatsoever. I waited over by an open back door where I saw some other people waiting and hoping to meet Mr. Hanks. At around six I overheard on a security's walkee talkee that the film has wrapped. Then they closed up the back door. So then I decided to go outside and wait over by what I thought was Tom Hanks trailer. It was. People, security was a joke and no one said anything to me about waiting. At around 6:30 Tom came out, signed and did photo opps for a few members of the crew. He then saw me and motion to me that everything was cool and he will sign. Not only did he sign my Toy Story 3 poster I told you readers I was working on ( I got Tim Allen last week at the Laugh Factory Comedy Club. It still needs Jodi Benson to finish it ) he signed 3 other photos, a baseball and baseball bat! And to top it off he actually apologized to me for not signing at the Toy Story 3 premiere! He told me that he was in the middle of filming Larry Crowne and he only had time to do the press and red carpet. What a classy guy.
After meeting with Mr. Hanks today I like to take back all the negative things I've said about him BUT I cannot. He still is a moody person and can still be a difficult autograph to get. I just happen to catch him on a good day.
Am real happy to get Mr. Hanks. AND in a low key situation. I was the only one.

That's awesome. Congrats on a better encounter. I've always admired Tom--ever since That Thing You Do! I've loved his work. Always love reading your posts and expertise as well, bud simpson, but I was wondering, what do you use to store your signed photos and memorabilia? Do you frame and hang a lot of your photos?

Very Awesome indeed!!! Congrats on this! I was able to get Tom back in 2008 when he was promoting the Great Buck Howard and I mean he signed just about everything for everyone! When he's in a good mood, he could just keep on going. Once again, nice job dude!

Tom Hanks has always been a great signer. I'm sure it wasn't an excuse that he gave but a legitimate reason why he couldn't sign at the premiere.

As of maybe 6 years ago Tom Hanks has NEVER been a reliable signer. I base this on many many in person encounters with this guy. He can't be compared to someone like a Robin Williams, John Travolta and Tom Cruise who are all much better to their fan's than Tom.

That's amazing! Would it be possible for you to post a picture of your signed Toy Story 3 poster? I'd love to see it!
