What is your reason for collecting???

Unread post by Peacewithlennon »

Everyone has their own reasons for collecting.

I am a giant history buff and I just love anything that has to do with Hollywood. I am really into photography also. I collect my favorite stars and hope to pass them down to my niece when she is a lot older. I get a giant rush when I get my items back. I preserve them well and take good care of them, it's like owning your own little history collection.

I tend to go through spurts. I collected a bit when I was in my teens/early twenties; then I hit a period where I didn't write anyone for about ten years. I think since I started going to Doctor Who conventions and meeting actors/behind-the-scenes folks, that bug hit me again. All of a sudden I got an urge to write to my favorite people again. I really don't collect autographs because I think of them as an investment (the only time I've sold autographs is when I've been in financial difficulty, and even then it was really hard to do so and I regret parting with several of them). Frankly, if I hadn't found this website I probably would have been content with getting in-person signatures at cons.

All I know is, when I go through my 3-ring binders or look on my wall at the couple of framed items I have, it makes me smile. That's a good thing.

The first one I ever got was one for my aunt of Alan Jackson, it's not the typical photo he usually sends out. He also sent me one. Thats what got me started on this addiction. I get my mail at 10am and everyday I call home to see what I get.

Sounds kinda weird but I feel like I own a little piece of history with each autograph because everyone has a unique signature that can't be duplicated. Once that person passes away you can't ever get them again. Of course, you can never be sure with TTM so I'm talking mainly about in-person autos. Everything else I view as something valuable to pass down to my family.

I think that is a wonderful reason, kinda reminds me of my own! :)

I'm a huge sports fan, so i tend to like to collect things. I also love movies and tv. I'm the type that would rather be sitting in a theater in July than by a pool or lake.

I've been wanting to start my collection for a long time, and this past year I went through a tough time losing my best friend (my wife and I divorced and she moved across the country). This was around Dec 5th, so in Jan. I started doing this somewhat hardcore in some ways. I started I think Jan 28th and have sent over 200 requests out since July 1st. I think I do it to keep my mind busy, and give me something to look forward to when I get home from work.
