And that's yet another team that has thrown a no-hitter before the Mets..

5th one overall this season if I'm not mistaken. Quite a year for pitchers.

In one short season, Matt Capps went from being non-tendered by the Pirates, to the all-star game as a National, to a pennant contender for the Twins. Of course, the Twins play in the weakest division in MLB so that's not much to brag about. The bummer of it (the trade) is that Wilson Ramos went to the Nationals organization. He had been playing for my hometown AAA team. Now he's gone.

Speaking of Wilson Ramos, he and pitcher Jose Lugo always travelled to and from the ballpark together, usually in a cab. Lugo would always walk behind Ramos while pointing at him and announcing, "Wilson Ramos! Wilson Ramos!"

I don't follow the Twins, but I don't really get this trade from their perspective. Rauch doesn't seem to be doing too bad, and Capps barely seems like an improvement over him. And what seems really weird is that they traded a top catching prospect to get him. Sure, they already have Mauer, but they could've done a lot better than Matt Capps for what they gave away.

That's about the consensus concerning the trade. Fortunately for me, I'm not a Twins fan. In fact I rather dislike the Twins managment team, but that's another topic for a rainy day.

You are absolutely right. The Twins could have done much better. While Ramos was struggling in AAA, his upside is still pretty tremendous and he is only around 22 years old. There was still a lot of interest in him prior to the trade. Matt Capps is only marginally better than Rauch (on paper), and really struggled last year with an ERA over 5. We'll see how things work out as he tries to ply his trade in the American League.

The trade deadline.. always fun.

Yanks get Berkman and Austin Kearns. Both look good enough to DH in my opinion, I would've just gotten one and not the other. But the Yankees are the Yankees.

Phillies get Oswalt, and he proceeds to lose to the Nats.

Rays gets Qualls from Arizona for a PTBNL. Seems meaningless.

Miguel Tejada goes to the Padres and that's somehow supposed to boost their offense. Too bad it's not 2002.

Jorge Cantu goes to the Rangers.

Arizona trades Synder and a minor leaguer to Pittsburgh for Bobby Crosby, Ryan Church and DJ Carrasco. Don't really get this one from Arizona's perspective. They traded a solid catcher and a speedy SS prospect for three sub-par players into their 30's.

Dodgers trades Blake DeWitt and a couple of minor leaguers to the Cubs for Lilly and Theriot. Two solid starters for the Dodgers, three nobodies for the Cubs.

Padres gets Ludwick from Cards, Cards gets Westbrook from Indians, Indians gets a minor leaguer from Padres.

The Braves and Royals got a trade done. The Braves got Rick Ankiel, Kyle Farnsworth, and cash considerations. The Royals got Gregor Blanco, Jesse Chavez, and Tim Collins.

That's just great... I've been "chasing" after Blanco for the last two years now. Every time the Braves AAA team comes to town he's on the roster just until they come to town. Now if he gets sent down he'll be in the PCL. Oh well...

Rick Ankiel.. gosh, anyone remember back when he was the best young pitcher in baseball? So weird how he suddenly just lost it but still managed to make it back to the majors as an outfielder.
