Help with Russian, please!

Unread post by Icena »

Hi everyone!

I'm wanting to write to Russian actor, Vasily Livanov. Now, I can't find an address or anything yet, but I'm sure I'll find one. What I'm more concerned with is actually writing the request. I can't write any Russian, except for saying 'Hello', which won't get me very far, haha. Does anyone have just some basic Russian that I could use for my request? I'm a bit wary about using a translator. Many thanks! {up}

But doesn't it translate it literally? That's the only thing I'm unsure of.

All non-human translations are literally, but google is actually pretty good, though I advise to wait for someone who speaks/writes Russian. If you want to use it, I would advise you to use easy words and short sentences.

Unfortunately, I don't, otherwise I'd ask for their help. I'll wait a while and see if I can get some more help from anyone, but if not, I'll use Google.

Thanks for the help, guys {up}

Maybe you can contact Jeannie. If you look under her avatar, she lives in the USSR (though it doesn't exist anymore :P), but it's maybe worth a try!

When I was learning my Spanish, I just thought of this: Wordreference. It's a site with a forum where people can post questions regarding language. I study translation and interpretion studies and if I have a doubt, I ask it there, and till now they've helped me a lot! If you don't find a Russian translator, you can use google and post the google translation there and someone will help you further :D! Maybe you should not tell them you used google translator :).

Or you can use answers.yahoo.com :D!

Good luck!

I would suggest not using Google to translate it. I have used it very successfully in the past to translate single words (like an automatic dictionary) but having used it to translate other languages into English I know how dodgy it can be!
