I think celebs use it as an excuse. I mean honestly who even uses Ebay anymore?? Most " dealers" use their own website. They just make the assumption you are going to toss it up on ebay and the funny part is unless it's someone huge their autograph isn't even worth anything on Ebay. There is no way to stop it unfourtunely......... My autographing buddy gets that excuse all the time. I only got it once thank god and get this it was after I paid 20.00 for the cd. The musician said oh here you go now you can throw it up on ebay. Seriously?? Some people need to get off their high horses. Anyways.... Back to topic I don't think it's possible {down}

Everyone uses eBay. Most "Dealers" also use ebay and have their own ebay store. Since "brick and mortar" card shops and memorabilia stores have gone by the waste side and cost too much in overhead to run, eBay is the best option. You get more views and more exposure through ebay for less money than having your own website.

Selling autos on ebay isn't going to end. Its also very rampant on craigslist...

selling on eBay is a nightmare. i lose sleep whenever i sell a high priced item on there. its so easy to get screwed over b/c they side with the buyer 99.9% of the time.

you would think that people selling fake autographs would get in trouble, but eBay does not care about illegal activities happening on their site. they are just happy to make a few bucks off each sale. and making paypal the only way to pay just pads their wallets even thicker. eBay really makes me sick sometimes.

I think if you wanted to stop the selling of autographs on eBay, especially those obtained through the mail, shutting sites like this one down would be part of the solution along with keeping addresses in a lockbox away from the masses.

Now, you don't want that, do you?
yeah I agree with the fakes statement. Theres so many fakes everywhere that I really only collect myself ttm or at conventions. I trade and buy off of this site mainly off of a couple girls. If a celeb really wants to stop sales of their autographs start signing a lot and pretty soon the signature will be worthless and only real fans will write and ask for autographs.

Even if they never signed another item there would still be tons of "signatures" from all the fakes on Ebay. Even celebs that sign have at least 80% fakes on Ebay since these sellers are too lazy to even write and get the real thing to sell. If nothing else the people buying the photos are real fans. So a millionaire signs and someone makes a few bucks selling the item to a real fan. Big deal

Honestly though, so what if it ends up on ebay? If someone is stupid enough to pay large amounts of money on something they find on ebay, let that be their problem. Why is the celebrity always so concerned with their autographs being sold on ebay? Are they really genuinely concerned about people getting ripped off or is there some other reason? I just think it's a dumb excuse to stop signing. How does it change the celeb's life or success if their autograph is sold? I therefore agree that they just use it as an excuse.

I think there are a couple of reasons...1) they aren't getting paid from this at all but others are 2) autograph collectors can sometimes be psycho and annoying 3) It makes there auto more valuable...

There are many reasons though

Of course. I've thought of all those reasons, especially #1 and #3, but in the long run, it hurts their career/legacy more if they don't sign for people [including those who are genuine fans] than not signing at all and risking the ebay thing. I mean there really isn't any real harm in signing. If it ends up on ebay, who cares. At least you made 10 real fans happy in the process. Or if you choose not to sign in person because of sellers, at least give the real fans a chance who write through the mail.

I have been getting autographs for over 20 years & all that time I have sold, or hung out with people who sell.

Before ebay, the excuses were just more varied...but just as often as they are now.
"your going to sell this at the local card/comic store", "your just going to sell this at a card show", "your going to sell it at the flea market". I even had 1 guy tell me I was going to sell them thru ads in the newspaper.

All ebay is, is a centralized excuse. It was bad for 2-4 years where ebay was the hub of everything....but now that its become a garbage heap of junk & has lost most of its business, I RARELY hear that excuse too much anymore from the stars....you usually hear it more from the hanger ons. Friends, peon workers on the set etc... the stars generally, dont seem too concerned.
Stop ebay, it will be "craigslist/website/discussion board/collectibles shows etc" as the focal point of their whining.

I havent noticed TOO much more of an increase in whining about selling since ebay became so commonplace. It might be up, but its SLIGHTLY at best, I am talking maybe 1/2-1 1/2% more...on an excuse that you hear only 2-3% of the time as it is.

:roll: It doesn't matter. People like Canadagraphs and many others will continue to do it. It's ashame though..... There are decent people out there that do care for the celeb and don't care about making a quick buck.
