Re: What is your reason for collecting???
I met Tommy Cooper in a cafe with my parents when I was about 9 and they egged me on to ask me to sign a bit of a paper napkin, which he did and I treasure it still today. Like capmonte have been through phases (and also got back into it again because our kids are obsessed with Dr Who and I started collecting related sigs for them!)
I don't do it with any view to selling them on, or anything to do with owning something valuable. Having suffered with depression, I've found it really good therapy to sit down at the end of the day and write a letter to someone who has brought pleasure into either my life or that of someone close to me and express that to them in writing. Asking for a signature is almost like asking for a confirmation that they've seen the letter, and it doesn't really matter to me if I get a reply, although getting home and opening the post has now become a pleasure rather than an exercise in worrying about bills!
I wrote to a VERY famous person recently, telling her how much I love her films, and she sent me a really sweet postcard back describing the making of a totally iconic classic film which everyone in the world would recognise the poster of even if they've never seen it. For me, that is the sort of buzz that money can't buy.
Less about collecting, more about spreading niceness around!

Re: What is your reason for collecting???
The main reason for me is I'm a huge film fan and to have the autographs of the cast of my favourite films is something nice to look back on. It's something that I'd look forward to passing on to my family, plus it's such a fantastic feeling seeing one of your SASEs coming back and wondering what's inside.

I have no clue really. Maybe just to say I have them and to show where I've been and who I've met.

Re: What is your reason for collecting???
I collect because I feel like I am getting a small slice of Hollywood history, especially when I write to the stars who acted in the "golden age" of cinema. Historical autographs I get because they are known for doing something in real life, and many are a part of some very important events in American and world history. I wouldn't mind owning a piece of it. The same with music and sports. I just like getting autographs from anybody who has made an impression on me in some way, or because I would think they'd be good to get. I am planning to pass my collection on down to my children.

Re: What is your reason for collecting???
I'm currently collecting for a present for my husbands 40th birthday next year...I'm planning on making an album of all the people he admires, although I have to say it is becoming very addictive! I guess I am also hoping to recreate some memories from the past for him getting autographs of people he followed in his youth and still admires to this day. I have some autographs myself from celebrities I have met throughout my career as an airhostess which I treasure, you never know this idea of a present may well end up turning into a hobby for me (I admit there are a couple of celebrities I have requested for my personal interest rather than his!!!) Just hoping I get a decent number of replies back!!

Re: What is your reason for collecting???
I like it because it's fun getting things from my favorite celebrities and it gives me something to look forward to. This hobby really keeps me going. It's not that expensive and it's lke getting little presents in the mail.

I mainly collect voice actor and Disney related autographs-Any questions with Disney successes/addresses? Feel free to PM me!
