My opinion? I would prefer you get out of the hobby. I hate autograph dealers with a passion. They are the ones that are making this hobby more and more difficult as far as getting autographs are concerned. Patronizing them will only encourage them (and others) to get greedier and make it more difficult to get autographs TTM and IP. It also encourages the folks who forge fake autographs on items and sell them as well.
I don't collect for the sake of "investment." I only collect for the pure joy of it. The most value I get out of obtaining an autograph is what I call "bragging rights." To me, each and every 'graph I have is worth absolutely zero in dollar value. The reason? Because I'll never sell them. Can't afford to lose my bragging rights.
Sorry, bud, but you asked...

I bought a Paul McCartney on eBay without realising it.
Someone had split up an old autograph book and listed the pages on eBay. The one that was listed was Dora Bryan, but there were a load of others on the page, all of the type that would have featured on one of the early 1960s variety bills - Mrs Mills, Cilla Black, and tucked away in the corner, missing from the scan put up on eBay due to careless cropping, was McCartney.
I paid about £1.50 for it. Needless to say I was very chuffed.
And I don't intend to sell it, as I collect for the same reason as Packrat. If my family want to flog them when I'm gone that's their lookout, but as long as I'm here they are going nowhere.

Just my honest opinion, I think you may have gotten ripped. Couple of reasons...$500 for a graph on a cd cover is a bit steep to me...but its your money. Second, I'd never buy anything off ebay that wasn't authenticated by PSA or another reputable company. Granted PSA isn't always 100% correct, but it does increase the odds of it being authentic. Paul is a highly saught after auto, and the more demand, the more counterfeits out there. Not saying yours isn't real, just saying I wouldn't drop $500 on any autograph on ebay without something to back it up. His sig is easily replicated.
If its real, and if you hold on to it...I'm still not sure you'll ever get your $$ back from it if you decided to sell it.
I honestly don't mean this to burst your bubble, just giving an honest opinion.

I agree with vjw and hitman.
I would never buy an autograph off of ebay, ESPCIALLY from someone like Paul McCartney. Just way too many fakes are sold there. It does look good bit like vjw said $500 for a cd cover is way overpriced.
