Probably the stupidest question ever....

Okay. So I'm ready to give this Autograph thing a try. I have absolutely everything ready and waiting. But then I realized...I have no idea about how long the letter has to be. I mean I guess there is no real requirement, but, how long is too long and how short is too short. Honestly, I suck at writing in general. I tried writing a letter and it ends a little shorter then half a page. I just felt it may be too short. So, what guidelines do you guys like to follow lengthwise? Basically, what is your minimum and maximum for you personally?

No stupid at all!! I tend to make mine fairly long. I use an 8x11 peice of paper and fill in both sides with accurate spacing between each line of text. A proper request should have five or more sentances. overdoing it would be like three pages, celebs don't have time to read such long requests.

I use a simple one page, hand wrtten format:
Paragraph 1 -- something about you;
Paragraph 2 -- something about them;
Paragraph 3 -- kindly request the autograph.

It is a widely accepted format, but not the only one out there. Don't worry about how good or bad you are at writing. I'm sure the celebrity has seen it all. Or will shortly. Just do the best you can and send it out. It gets easier with practice.

I do a short letter, much the same as the format already mentioned. If i'm after an autograph then there is no need to go on for pages and pages, also think of the celeb's time, they get alot of fanmail so keep it short and i'm sure they will appreciate it!

My letters are always more or less the same
I address the person i'm writing, and then I introduce myself, say my name, age, where I'm from that kind of thing.
Then I mention why I like them and how I know them. This varies for me, with some people this part is longer and with some it's kinda short. After that I mention I collect autographs and if they would be so kind to send me one, I mention my address and my appreciation.
As a closing formula I thank them for taking the time to read my letter and wish them all the best and sign

just write what you feel is comfertable. I write mostly 1 side of an A4 but some of them have been longer

I think this format is the best, and a pretty safe bet. Unless the celeb is your hero/idol, then maybe make it a bit longer. In saying all of this, the reality is at least 50% of the celebs we write to will not read the letters at all.
