I would have been SO MAD! How could it get so badly damaged? At least she was kind enough to send you a different photo.arrowsup wrote:I sent three requests out one day and about two weeks later I got an envelope from the USPS with a piece of my envelope (mind you, it was a tiny piece...and it only had my return address on it - so I couldn't tell who I had addressed it to) with a note saying that my mail had been destroyed in processing....so sorry!. One envelope definitely made it through, but it was so badly damaged that the recipient (Barbara Feldon) replaced my photo with one of her own. The other two were never replied to, so I assumed they were both destroyed and re-sent them.
Anyone ever received damaged mail?

My mailman actually rings the door bell whenever I get anything that would have to be stuffed in the mailbox.

Re: Anyone ever received damaged mail?
I never received anything out of the ordinary bent or slightly crumpled envelope. The office of Jimmy Carter Googled my name and address to get my home phone number to tell me that they received my SASE and LOR... but, the book that I sent wasn't in the package I sent, so somebody purposely opened it and stole the book before it got to the office. They promptly replaced the book and had him sign it, though, so I'm glad it was replaced. His personal secretary couldn't have been nicer! Imagine that... the secretary of a former President going out of the way to find my phone number to call me.

They're far from perfect, but they're still okay for the most part. With the volume of mail they process, and all the people and locations they pass through, you have to expect some bad eggs somewhere. And the 8x10+ envelopes many of use are just a easier size to damage.

Not only do I write 'do not bend', but I include a tough piece of cardboard with my requests. Most celebrities are smart enough to send back the cardboard, haha, so the mailman doesn't go through all the trouble of crushing the cardboard to force it in.

That's a great idea. I may have to start doing that.

I once got a success back , forgotten who from, where the person didn't seal up the envelope. They didn't pull off the strip with the sticky stuff underneath. I am probably really lucky I got everything back, that I know of.
