Re: Prostitution legalized in Canada
I think all vice crimes (prostitution, gambling, drugs, etc.) should be legalized. All should be taxed by the federal, state, and local governments and strictly regulated.

Re: Prostitution legalized in Canada
The truth is they have some master plan to tax people like usual or they wouldnt legalize prostitution, they act like they care about the safety of the hookers but they don't they just want to get tax money like always. The canadian government is masters at doing this like with government run liquor stores so they make all the money or saying cigarettes will kill you but at the same time regulate where they are sold and make them 90% government taxes.I think liquor should be sold in grocery stores and stuff like in the states and i think cigarettes should be illegal because its proven they cause cancer and i think prostitution should be illegal and the men who use them illegally should be publically embarrassed so their families,co workers and friends all know they were caught picking up prostitutes. And i wish they would please stop giving people fancy names like sex trade workers, they are just hookers just like a garbage man is not a sanitary engineer ,lol hes a garbage man !!!

Re: Prostitution legalized in Canada
I'm curious, why do you think it's wrong?
Situation a) woman is trapped into working as a prostitute by a drug using boyfriend who beats her up and takes her money. Perhaps she's been hooked on drugs herself.
Situation b) woman quite likes having sex, doesnt have a pimp and picks up clients who are buisness men, not seedy men off street corners. She has regular STD checks and always uses protection.
I know which situation I think should be illegal... but what about the other? She's careful, a buisness woman herself. She's just selling a different product.

Re: Prostitution legalized in Canada
Actually the reason this decision was made WAS about safety. You say the government legalized it just to get tax money, but it wasn't the Canadian government who legalized it at all. It was a group of sex workers and human rights attorneys who brought a case before the Ontario Superior Court and the judge said that the law itself is dangerous and until a better one can be created, it was best to legalize prostitution. The government does not have plans to tax it, in fact I was in the House of Commons yesterday when Attorney General Rob Nicholson said he completely disagrees with the ruling and plans to appeal it, effectively trying to make prostitution illegal again.johnnylightning wrote:The truth is they have some master plan to tax people like usual or they wouldnt legalize prostitution, they act like they care about the safety of the hookers but they don't they just want to get tax money like always.

Re: Prostitution legalized in Canada
Hadn't heard about that, in my opinion thats a good, progressive thing to do. Whether you agree with prostitution or not, it happens. Always has and always will. At least when its legalized the women have more say over what happens. Plus if its legal you can take it off the streets. Watched a decent programme about the legal brothels in some state in America. Everythings clean, everythings private and its the women who set the price and are in control. Just pretending like these things don't happen and making it illegal is going to do nothing but put people in the situation where they are easy prey for those who want to cash in on them. Its not just the safety of the workers that's improved either. When its regulated the health of the workers is checked which can only be good to stop STIs spreading.

Re: Prostitution legalized in Canada
Like I said earlier, as long as I don't see the prostitutes whoring themselves on street corners, I'm for its legalization. The brothel owners (pimps/madams) would need to register their brothel with their state's health and human services department. Licenses would need to be granted by the state government. Registering would insure a safe and clean working environment. Restrictions would would need to be in place to keep order. There would need to be strict penalties (license revoking and large fines) for disregarding the rules.
