Finding autographs at Thrift Shops...yes, it does happen!!

Wow, I never thought of this before.
My aunt doesn't spare even a second in a thrift store, because of how dirty and cheap they are but for years I've been telling her this is where people find things like vintage designer bags and stuff and resell them later on ebay for a ton of money.. never thought of autographs but come to think of it, a lot of schools have book fairs where authors come to sign or even colleges who have celebrity guests. So it makes sense, if a person isn't interested in the celeb and tosses the book aside.
I don't drive but I might add this to my list of things to try on my birthday on Monday - and look out for some designer bags, as well.

I seen books where they was given as a gift, signed by a family member or friend! I noticed alot of rich looking people in the thrift store. This one woman was looking at books with me, she had on a short short skirt and kepe bending down......hard to look for autographs with that going on.....wondering eyes. I didnt find any autographs, but maybe next time.

Here we go again!
Went to a Goodwill out of town that I rarely go to yesterday and found a couple of things:

The Rest Of Us, signed and inscribed by the author. Jacquelyn Mitchard is a newspaper columnist and author. She has written over twenty books. Her most famous book was The Deep End Of The Ocean, which was the first selection for Oprah's Book Club. There was also a movie made based on this book, starring Michelle Pfeiffer.



The Connected Corporation, signed by the author. Jordan D. Lewis is one of the world's foremost authorities on alliances, coalitions and partnering(business stuff ). He has written three books on the subject, and is also a noted public speaker.


There are two handwritten pages of notes pictured, which I found inside the book. They are from the previous owner who attended a lecture by Mr. Lewis at a Sheraton hotel in Washington, D.C.

I am a big fan of thrift shops.

I went there last week and found a book "Perforated Hearts" by Eric Bogosian, "The Piano Shop On The Left Bank" by Thad Carhart, and "Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell" by Sussanna Clarke.

They're pretty cheap.

Hey all!
Went to my local Goodwill yesterday, and again, I was NOT disappointed!! Here's what I found:



"I Marry You", signed by the author, John Ciardi. Ciardi was a world-reknowned poet(he died in 1986), and wrote numerous poetry books. He also had a television show on CBS during the 1960s called "Accent".


"Jack Crow Said Hello", signed by the author, Lynn Sheffield Simmons. Simmons is a children's book author. Needless to say, this one wasn't hard to spot


"The Stargazey-A Richard Jury Mystery", signed by the author, Martha Grimes. Grimes is the best-selling author of 22 Richard Jury Mysterys, along with other books.

Went to our local Disabled American Veterans(DAV)Thrift Store this past Saturday, and found the following:



"I Didn't Plan To Be A Witch". Signed and inscribed by the author. Ethel Shirley Lueth was the author of several books. She died this year.


"The Light And The Glory". Signed and inscibed by the author. Rev. Peter Marshall was the founder of Peter Marshall Ministries and he also co-authored three best-selling books. He also died this year. Can we sense a pattern here??


"The Thor Conspiracy". Signed by the author. Larry Burkett wrote over 70 books, with sales exceeding 11 million copies, with numerous national best-sellers. He was also Chairman of the Board of Directors for Crown Financial Ministries. And yes.....he died....in 2003. These, as well as most of the other books I have posted in this thread, are for sale or trade. PM me!!

THRIFT SHOP GOLD yesterday!!
Went to a Goodwill in a nearby town yesterday, and struck gold!!



"SURVIVING MYSELF", signed by the author. Jennifer O'Neill is a film and television actress. She starred in "Scanners" and "A Force Of One". among many others.


"KEEPING SECRETS", signed and inscribed by the author. Suzanne Somers is a television and film actress. She is most famous for "Three's Company" and "Step By Step".
I am SO happy I found these!!

Wow, great finds. My Goodwill never has anything good and I go in every other week. The Suzanne Somers one is a keeper.
