Re: Bud Selig TTM question
Yes, it's always polite to send a SASE when requesting TTM.
Even if there known to send their own envelopes I still send one.
It shows them you care enough to have them reply back to you. It's also nice to include items for the person to sign. if he decides to send his own item as well, then that's his decision, but it greatly helps them out a lot if you just send the proper required materials to begin with.

Re: Bud Selig TTM question
There have been a few recent successes with people sending an SASE and getting a signed ball in return. I'd use a #2 (6x9) bubble envelope and put around $2.50 in stamps on it. That's more than is usually required, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
However, there was a discussion on this site not too long ago concerning Mr. Selig. He has supposedly stopped sending signed balls supplied by him, but sends a signed photo instead. There used to be a time when he would send a ball and pay for the envelope and postage, but that has pretty much come to a halt. I have to admit that I'm a bit confused myself about this since the successes keep coming.

Re: Bud Selig TTM question
Just about all the successes that I've seen seem to require an SASE when not supplying anything. I don't have a direct answer, since I haven't gotten around to sending to him. I have not seen anyone requesting a free signed photo. But from what I've read, he does seem to have some photos handy for his fans. I would imagine it would be easy to find something on Google, Bing, or Yahoo big enough to print out, so I'd look around first to see if there are any photos I might like. A 5x7 printed out through Walmart's web site (site to store) is only 58 cents plus tax. Since it would be a good idea to send an SASE, the photo won't add that much additional postage.
But on the other hand, sending a request without an SASE would only cost .44 cents. Might be worth a shot.

That reminds me... I still have a bubble envelope set up as an SASE from my Red Schoendienst TTM/RTS failure. Hmm...

I belive that Ryan "hit the nail on the head" ( I've always liked that expression and never seem to use it) with his answer. It is best and more respectful to send what is needed to the person tht you are making the request from. Even if they choose to return your item / check/ or whatever, the courtesy shows and is appreciated.
I have been asked many times about trading / selling some of my autographs. I am sorry but my collection is not and will not be for sale.
