I am actually one of those people who prefer signed cards or blank paper to photos... {up} Just because the signature looks better on plain background, won´t get rubbed off that easily and on the whole, I just like it a lot better. And no, I do not sell any of my autographs.

Unfortunately, many of my favourite artists never signed index c. And I don´t know why. I mean, come on, do they think I´m going to try to exploit their bank account or what..? But yeah, I understand and respect their decision. It´s just slightly annoying, though. :?

I think has something to do with security. I'm not sure but I saw a post that the celeb wrote on the index card that he doesn't sign bank index cards due to security reasons.
I think it was Jeremy Bulloch, not sure though.

Hey!

I think this may be correct. You could lie, and say that they signed for this reason or that, because it is on a blank sheet. A photograph is more of a fan signature. Besides, I would prefer a photo anyway!!!

Good luck w/ collecting

I've been warning folks on this board since I got here to be careful about sending out index cards.

The issue is identity theft. A signature on an index card is easy to copy and paste onto a contract for goods and services. I actually met a ballplayer last year who told me about how it happened to him. He signed an index card and his signature was used to purchase an expensive item (that probably got re-sold). It took him a few months to straighten it out but in the meantime he was broke. It took him a while to get over it and he wouldn't sign anything for about a year. Now he only signs cards and photos.

Jesus! I feel sorry for him. Once again, scum are ruining this hobby for everyone. I hate sending photos as it becomes very expensive. But it seems I will have little choice.

Identity theft, yeah, I know, one of the most common crimes and quite difficult to straighten it all out again... Must be terrible!

However this concerns also celebs who do not use their real names as artists, but have pseudonyms. Also, some people always and without exception sign their initials only when writing autographs, and probably not just because it is quicker than writing their full name. And yet they would not sign an index card.

I always ask for personalization, which should give signals I have no intentions to sell or trade autographs. Hmm. I never had the balls to ask them... 8)

You see, I don´t want to argue, I am just genuinely interested.

It really doesn't matter if you ask for a personalization or not. A dealer can do the same thing, then go home and take it off with nail polish. It's just as well to switch to a 4x6 photo, since they are cheap. They may be more expensive then index cards, but are cheap enough to be affordable.

In my case, it is not a money problem, just a matter of preference ;-)

But of course I also prefer one autograph to none :) so when I am not sure I usually send a picture or one pic one card.
