No autographs today, but still a Christmas Card!
I hardly dare to even say it here since I've been sounding like a broken record for the past two weeks, but I just read that there is a chance that the Dutch Postal Service will go on strike next week for 4 days.... They even named it "Christmas Strike" like it is some great thing or something! I think they will go for defenite planning when the debate in our Government has been tomorrow and until they know what the headcompany of TNT will do, but I'm afraid we indeed will have a strike again.
For *piep* sakes! 4 days!! This isn't normal anymore. In November and December there have been around 4 strikes now. Twice 1 day, 1 two days and 1 three days. Now adding a 4 days? I hate my mail company

I don't understand..what are they so angry about, that they need to keep going on strike? This inconveniences everyone, especially during the holiday season. People send packages and cards, and the bills need to arrive so people can pay them on time. I'm so sorry.

^Tabby: Well the Postal Market in The Netherlands hasn't been that good lately. Many people use the Computer and such. Plus they did something to the Postal Market which resulted in next to the big Postal Service (TNT) anybody that wants to can start a Postal Service, can do. That's why we have approx. 5 or so Postal Services.

Because of these two things TNT needs to let people go. 3300 was the word I believe at first. Now don't get me wrong, I can fully understand that someone wants to keep their Job in these times, I myself have been Jobless for 1 1/2 years now.
The Unions think 3300 is way too much and wants to see the figure go down. TNT has made 2 offers.
1. (this one was a while back) Keep the 3300 people but the workers needed to lose 15% of their pay
2. Bring the 3300 back to 2500

Now, I can understand that people aren't jumping to give in on their salary in times like these. But to me it seems like the Postal People think they can have it all. Don't give back on pay + keep the 3300 people. It's a recession, everybody needs to give back. Heck, guess why I can't find a job? But you can't! And I think option 2 was a very nice option from TNT. It still means people to go, but a lesser number. But the Unions think that the number of 2500 can go back even more.
As much as I really do understand people 'fighting' for their Job, I do also have the feeling these people think that they can have it all, while the whole of The Netherlands need to give back.

They especially used the Holidays for the most effect. As I said, the Postal Market isn't the best and December does have the most mail. But I still don't agree on that. One of the union people said, very dry "Well, people will miss their Christmas Cards this year". HOW can you say that to a little old lady/sir that is in a home that looks forward to that one card they get a year, knowing they aren't forgotten, but now due to not getting mail or way too late they might feel abandoned?

So, yeah, this was a very long message, sorry!
But in a nutshell, I really do understand the fight to keep a job in times like these, but I do wish they'd understand that they can't have it all in the same times like these and there is a law that the mail needs to be brought 6x a week. And indeed, next week will be the week the bills start to come in. I wonder *if they go on a 4 day strike* how many people will come into trouble

well i did post a letter and sase to matt smith, i posted a big envolope into a little one along with letter wich made it bulky(9/12/10) and i wasnt sure that would get to him because i thought it may have been wrong choice of size, so i posted it again today in a big envolope with a big on folded in half inside along with letter today hope i did that one right.
it was my first one, hope i at least get one back
