letter head.
My advise is to look at a local charity.
Ask to meet the head fund raiser and discuss your plans.
Then ask for a letter of introduction. photocopy this and send with your letter.
This will cut out the need for letter heading.
This is what i have been doing and we have about 60 items to auction off at the moment

Alternatively, if you want to collect for a particular charity then visit their website and get a contact telephone number.
If you phone them and speak to their charity co-ordinator you should get some luck!

Hey
another way of dealing with this is to phone the charity that you want to fundraise for an ask them for a reference number or someone who will vouch that you are fundraising for them. that way, on each request you put out you can put the official charity phone number and the reference details and anyone who has any doubts can check out if you are genuine.
either way...GOOD LUCK!
