Austin Comic Con

Unread post by Supremekid »

This is my first real post so hopefully I do well:

I attended Austin Comic Con during the weekend of November 12-14. I'd been looking forward to it for awhile cuz it was the first one I've attended since 06'. I did alot of walking around and comic shopping. The featured guests were Adam West and Burt Ward but their lines were consistantly long throughout the weekend I didn't get them but I did get a chance to meet alot of others.

The first celeb I met was James Hampton, the dad from Teen Wolf, and he was a very nice and chatty guy. We talked a little about Teen Wolf and how it was kind of like Spiderman then we got to talking about John Ritter cuz they'd done a show together back in the 90's.

Next I went to Doug Jones cuz I liked him in Hellboy and Fantastic 4 and while looking over his pictures he's really been in a ton of movies. He was very friendly and very free with the hugging.

I was kind of hesitant to get Kevin Nash cuz he does alot of shows but I figured how often I am I go to one. I got one of him as Super Shredder from TMNT 2: Secret of the Ooze and one as the Russian from The Punisher. We spoke a little about the Punisher movie and he asked me if I knew what happened to his character in the comics (cuz the Russian's head gets attached to a woman's body in the comics) I said yes and I asked if he'd have done that for the sequel. He said, "Sure, money's money." I also asked him if he'd spoken to Shawn Michaels lately since he lives in San Antonio and he said he had and I told him he should try and talk him into coming since they had a wrestling section. Overall, nice enough guy (especially if you're a woman) but his assistant was all business with selling the photos.

Met Kristanna Loken when her booth died down. I got her to sign a T3 photo and told her I'd seen her episode of Boy Meets World the other day. She kinda smirked and said nobody'd ever brought that up to her before at a convention. She was nice enough to take a picture with me after that for no charge which I appreciated cuz most celebs were charging $25 even with your own camera.

The longest line I waited in was Ray Park's, when I got to the front he was all smiles and shook my hand. We spoke a little bit about his part in Fanboys and how he would've done the part of C*** Knocker in Jay and Silent Bob if his agent hadn't talked him out of it. He's pretty good with fans cuz he was asking kids questions that had been ahead of me and even asked me about myself when we spoke.

The last celeb I met was Brian Steele, he does alot of creatures like in Hellboy, Underworld, Predators etc and my friend really wanted to meet him and they were shooting the breeze when he started talking to me and he asked since we were visiting Austin what we'd been up to and I told him catching up with a friend of mine who was pregnant which led me to telling a story that had me telling her, "Not even God can hear your tears." That made him laugh and I got him to sign a Predators photo with that on it.

Comic creator wise I got to meet some cool people: Arthur Suydam cover artist of Marvel Zombies, Kerry Gammill, Superman artisit in the 90's (I'm a huge Superman fan so it was great to finally meet an artist from the series) and James O'Barr, creator of the Crow

Congrats on those! {up}

I met Ray Park a few years ago, and I can vouch that he's a class guy. Most of the guests at cons are pretty nice, but I felt like he went out of his way to talk to each fan and make sure we're enjoying ourselves. He remembered my name later on too, so little things like that go a long way in building a fan base.
There's nothing like seeing your own handwriting on a letter addressed to yourself in your mailbox :D

Thanks. I've got a couple of others but since they're comic artists/talent I wasn't sure weither or not anybody'd want to see them. Ray really was a highlight for me celeb wise cuz he was just such a nice guy.
