That does seem quite strange. Glad you all got the jump on it.

I find it even stranger that I am always the last one to find out about the suspicious doings on fanmail. I never find anything worth mentioning. Someone beats me to it. Oh well. Less work for me :lol:

By the way. I didn't know that the IP address is the same if you use the same provider. As I use AOL, does that mean that my IP address is the same as theirs?

That is really weird indeed. They could be one and the same person for all we know (or at least people that know each other.) It's a very distinct possibility.

It has turned out that I also have used that IP address. I can assure you that I have nothing to do with this, and after being guided by Ian, it turns out that you get a new IP address whenever you sign onto AOL. I have had about 30, and only 2 of them I knew.

Equally, Andy316 has posted a reputation post for scaarr, just saying me too.

Hey Daniel {up}

Yep, I am afraid you also post from the same IP as several other members!!! Just click the Image button on the righthand side of any of your posts, and you will see who also posts from that IP.

Unfortunately this problem is peculiar to AOL. I used to have AOL UK as my connection, but the problem is that all IP addreses provided by AOL are "dynamically provided IP addresses" I'm not sure exactly what that means, only that in essence you can share you IP address with many other AOL members.

The problem which made me leave AOL is that the dynamic provision of IP addresses meant it was impossible for us to use AOL for our network as your IP address can change every time you connect. So we had to swap to a provider who provides a totally individual address.

{down} thumbs down for AOL on this one!

thumbs up {up} to Admin for removing the negative posts but does anyone else think that all the fraudulent positive feedbacks should be removed?

*all were left within 25 mins or so, one after the other on 20/02/06
*leaving them in place runs the risk that new fanmail users will believe this person to be fully trustworthy (not that i dont think they are, but you know what i mean) based on the high rating.
*its not fair on those who work hard and get rewarded by other users, if they see that someone else has a higher rating than them but doesnt deserve it.

finally...i think this is worth a warning given all the other comments and negatives given to this user, especially regarding use of language.

i fully plan to delete this but i would appeal to admin to remove this person from fanmail.biz as they are clearly doing nothing but causing trouble for our systems.

Hey guys {up}

I think most members know what I think about this, but I will say it one final time.

I believe that scaarr and Andy316 are the same person. I just deleted my own {down} negative feedbacks from scaarr as it was still showing on my total. They had not been removed :|

Andy316 has 18 {up} votes 14 of which are from scaarr and I believe they should all be deleted for the very reasons Robin gave above. On the outside it looks like the member is far more trustworthy than they are, and it is not fair to other members who are playing by the book.

If we continue to let members 'play the system' like this without pulling them up, then there is little point in having the system at all.

As a whole, our website seems far too worried about upsetting a tiny minority of bad members. Members who spoil the experience for the vast majority of great members and moderators.

To be absolutely honest the many situations like this recently bother me personally to such an extent that I am sad to say I have to question my continued involvement in the forum.

Maybe it's just me, but I suspect not. What do others think?

This is obviously someone trying to exploit and defraud the reputation system in place. This is very unfair to the rest of the members who work hard to keep the system fair for everyone.

As Robin said earlier - all 18 {up} reputation points were made within a 25 minute period. This was obviously done on purpose to posts with no real legitimate reason.

[agree] with Ian, these fraudlent reputation points should be removed. This is in order to serve as a major warning to the user.

We have to be able to keep this reputation system in check, otherwise there will be no point in having one in the first place, as it'll be a joke.

I have been looking at the points given by scarr to Andy and most of them are hih and ccc and gfg, weird things like that!! I have now been checking reputation points to make sure they are appropriate reasons to be giving them out!!!

Like everyone has said, SO many members here work so hard to earn those points and people like that are just ruining it for us all!! It's really not fair at all. It seems like Scarr likes to post points wherever Andy does and always gives him a {up} . Since i have been looking through the feedback area, i have deleted those ccc, gfg and hihi and other weird ones given to Andy since it isn't fair that he gets these points for absolutely no reason. I'll be watching out on the feedback and collecting discussion.

Andy has ALSO been starting arguements in the Autograph Collecting discussions with Joeay which i believe isn't fair. Joeay has the right to his or her opinion, and the accusations he makes about the member is unfair and there has been two times i had to step in and ask him to politely get along and just learn to let people have their opinion.

Sorry for making this so long, i'm just worried :D

You're definitely doing the right thing Chrissy {up}. It's one way we'll be able to show Andy316 & scaarr that they're playing around with the system. Andy shouldn't have those reputation points!
