New users signing up with weird usernames from Kiev

Unread post by nowandagain »

Hi everyone :D

I've been noticing that there have been a number of users signing up with weird usernames in the last few days (e.g. 1dCr0nIt, 16DoMM64.)

I can see about 13 so far in the memberlist, as they all have their location as "kiev" (lower case k.) These users may not be legitimate if there are a number of them signing up. They could be signing up to deliver more unauthorised messages (although none of them have posted.)

What does everyone else think?

Yeah, I did notice the websites jdp3577. I didn't want to click onto their website links because they looked suspicious :|

1 or 2 of them don't have website links, but I can see about 19 suspicious members from Kiev now in the memberlist.

PLUS: I'm looking at some of the other recent users who have created usernames, and many of them have websites (probably) linking to other things including online pharmacies, credit cards and porn (e.g. Ernest7765, Constance8161, Sergey007, SP576jpv)

I think these users are being automatically generated, so perhaps admin could introduce something to verify that humans are creating accounts on the forum (such as boxes where you have to type in the letters/numbers that can be seen from a picture) and removing illegitimate users.

Hey guys!!!

I think your absolutely right about this!!!! I also clicked on the website under their profile and it seems like all these new strange members are spammers and bots!! They seem to be very smart

I agree that admin should come up with a identification code that many of us have seen used to verfy that the person signing up is indeed a human being and not a bot!!

If these bots start to all post on the forum we're going to have ONE Heck of a time trying to gett rid of all the spams. Knowing Bots and spammers they can produce spammings in seconds at a time, times 13 that have registered...oh my  I hope something is done soon!!

Hi all :)

It's done

+ Posting is now restricted to members in all forums.
+ These users from kiev have been removed from the member list.

Thanks for your help all {up}

Hi admin :D

That's great news that you've removed the users from kiev.

However, there are also a number of users which don't have a specific location, but they have websites that are of a questionable nature.

I haven't clicked on any of their website links, but some of the users include: UliaHV, UliaUQ, FullSet0fPorn, pornacd, Kerry3806, Mathew6764, Opal3886 and many more. These users (probably) have links to online pharmacies, porn and other spam, and need to be removed.

I know it's going to take a little while to remove some of the users, as you will have to distinguish between legitimate users and illegitimate users with website links. However, it's best if they're removed as soon as possible.
