COA - PSA/DNA Authentic Autographs

Unread post by Lan-Di »

Hello,

I have a question about COA and PSA/DNA authentic autographs. How trustworthy are these? There are so much and also lots of cheap COA en PSA authentic autographs on Ebay that it makes me question if they are real.

I don't know a lot about COA, PSA/DNA and such, can anyone help me out? Are there other certificate organizations?

Many thanks in advance,

A COA is a certificate of authenticity. It supposedly means that the person issuing the certificate testifies the article is genuine. Phony people have issued phony COAs, so you have to be careful. Most of the time it's not worth the paper it is printed on.

PSA/DNA is a company that "certifies" an autograph as genuine or not, and if they think it's real they will issue a COA. They have been known to declare a fake autograph as genuine, as well as declaring a genuine autograph a fake. They can only declare that the autograph is considered real or fake. I never rely on COAs anyway. I prefer to live with the autographs I can get IP, TTM, or in a trade with someone that I consider trustworthy.

PSA/DNA, and JSA are the big two, most other COA's are meaningless
Feel free to pm me if you need a postage price for mail involving the USA, or if you need to buy US stamps(foreign cash accepted!)

UNLESS THEY HAVE PHOTO PROOF OR YOU CAN TRUST
THEM 100% DONT RELY ON THE COA'S AS PROOF!

DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH AND MAKE THE CORRECT CHOICE.

Good Luck.

Thank you for the reply's.

In short:
COA is a no go?
PSA/DNA is 50/50?
JSA should be okay?

So its kinda safe to say that its not smart to buy any autographs on Ebay? I'm willing to pay a lot of money for real ones, but I'm afraid they may be fake.

Ebay is FANTASTIC...if you know what you're looking for. I've managed to get a couple of bargains on there. But there is so much rubbish on there that you truly do need to know your stuff. I have persistantly been reporting the same bad JK Rowling forger for a good three months now and Ebay are doing NOTHING about it. Having said that, I can't feel TOO sorry for the buyers - if you look at his previous listings 99% are the same book with the same signature in exactly the same place. The chances of that happening are so low it's laughable.

If there's something you specifically want, try posting it on here for people to help you out with authenticating.
Here is my selling website. Lots of autographs for sale! http://www.rachaelgrant.com/items/
Favourite: Daniel Radcliffe, JK Rowling, Alan Rickman, River Phoenix, Evangeline Lily
Want: Randy Harrison signed theatre items

COA is a no go?there are a few good ones, but if it just says COA, and no name, usualy no good. With COA's its important to do reaserch
PSA/DNA is 50/50?I would say more than 50/50, usualy okay
JSA should be okay?same as PSA/DNA, both have passed fakes, but are usualy good

So its kinda safe to say that its not smart to buy any autographs on Ebay? I'm willing to pay a lot of money for real ones, but I'm afraid they may be fake.

I would suggest to you to stay away from purchasing autographs online. Period. First give yourself some time to learn about the hobby. Read as much as you can find. Ask questions. Understand that some folks will give you good advice, some will give you bad advice. Just take it all in and eventually things will come together for you.

Seriously, give yourself between 6 months to a year, at minimum, to learn about the hobby before you even think about purchasing an autograph from a dealer.
