Hi eveliendorien :D

When you went to the post office, did you ask for IRC's or International Reply Coupons? Sometimes if you say IRC (abbreviated,) the people at the post office don't understand.

If you want to buy IRC's and the people at the post office don't understand, you may have to explain what they are.

An IRC is a coupon purchased and added with a letter that you're sending to another country. The recipient will use the coupon in their country to exchange it at their post office for postage stamps to send a letter back to you. In a way, you are pre-paying return postage.

Also, sometimes smaller post offices don't have them (so they don't know what they are) so you may have to go to a bigger one, or ask the post office to order some in for you.

Also eveliendorien, it is VERY VERY VERY important when purchasing an IRC, that the Post Office you purchase it from, STAMPS the IRC in the correct spot.

I purchased some from a post office here in Australia today, and the employee almost sold them to me without stamping them

You can always take them back to the post office if they haven't been stamped. They should be stamped in the box on the left-hand side (where the 2 letters for your country are.)

Plus, some countries do accept them unstamped (such as the US.) However, I would advise to get them stamped just in case.
