Unread post by topgun822 »

i like photo file quality and have the holograms in the right corner. ussaly ilook at best sports photos.cccom but are still a little expensive.. a store by me is 3 dollars for the photo file type which is a great deal 3 for one but his selection is no good for me any more ive got over 100 different from him.. photo file is cheap if you buy wholesale but have to get like 5 of same pic i only want one. willing to buy atleast 10 every time any help would be nice .. and yes im to picky about printing my own or buying non glossy un licensed ones . i hate poor quality one time in person got jimmy rollings big pile of people when i got out my sharpie marked a line 2 inches long next to the name not on it soo i tried to get it off then the fucccing photo started to erase were i wiped. i spend to much time a spring training parks for that stuff to happen

Go to google images and find a photo of the person thats larger than 1600x1200 (theres a button to push that filters only photos that big). Really easy to find sports people this way. Then get them printed online I use Adoramapix which charges like a dollar a picture. These are real glossy 8x10's made in a lab not ink jet crap like u get from the photo machines at Walmart. And a dab of acetone (nail polish remover without any dyes or anything) on GLOSSY photos to remove any personalizations or smudges like u mentioned.

I dont do inkjet crap and used to by photos off sites but most of the people I wanted to send to I couldnt find licensed photos for.

I have no doubt that the machines Adorama uses are about the same as the ones Wal-Mart uses. (The days of the so-called "professional labs" are just about over, unless you are talking about making a photo from a negative.) I use Wal-Mart all the time and have never had a problem with the quality of my photos. I don't get the glossy photos. I like the matte finish, or what Wal-Mart calls "Luster" on thier site. I suppose it's mostly a matter of personal preference but the important thing is the autograph, not the photo. Unless you are a dealer, that is.

An image that is 800x1000 would work fine for an 8x10. The rule of thumb is 100 pixels in a file equals one inch on a photo. Of course, if you can find a file larger than that the quality will be better. But keep in mind that anything larger usually has to be cropped, so it's a good idea to upload it and see how it will fit before pulling the trigger on an order. Sometimes the file you find will be out of proportion (and even might not crop right) so it takes a bit of trial and error to learn how to get the most out of a file.

Agree with Packrat, especially the bit about re-sizing photos in the right dimensions for printing. When I started this I soon learned the hard way, with heads chopped off and just downright strange cropping. I see this as the trade-off with the supplier, they don't look closely enough at them to have to think about any potential copyright issues, but you have to meet them halfway in giving them something the right shape to work with.

I use photoshop to re-size and add borders, but if you've not got access to that, I'd also recommend Paintshop Pro which from its earliest releases has had a really useful (and simple to use) add a border function, which is much easier to use than Photoshop. I've been using ancient versions of it for years, there are loads on oldversion.com, choose one which will work with your operating system. They used to give full old versions of it away on covermounted CDs with PC magazines, so there are probably some full, free versions about on the internet, also thousands of tutorials.

Your wrong if u are talking about those photo machines. I used to use Walmart and Walgreens machines and they are nothing more than quality ink jets. I had a photo I tried to clean a smeared personalization off of from Walmart like the guy said he did in his original post and the picture came right off too. Did the same thing with adoramapix photos many times and the photo is unhurt.

Thats the difference and why I dont do ink jets. The Walmart ones look good but they are not lab made glossy photos like Adorampix and some other online companies. Lab made photos take silver and other metallic sharpies really well also the ink jets dont.

And the sizes I was referring to were for teh guys request for sports players not all photos in general. I wouldnt p!ss with anything smaller for athlete photos since theres fifty million available for every player and one button filters out the little ones unfit for 8x10s.

Adoramapix is about a buck a photo too Walmart is almost $5 for an 8x10. Theres also specials they run and since he is taking many to spring training it is a better place to get photos. They also resize, crop and border photos so u can see what u are getting a lot easier.

Finally Walmart and Walgreens used to bug me and refused to let me print photos since they were from the internet and copyrighted the online sites print anything.

I can see you are talking about using the kiosks. I've never used the kiosk at Wal-Mart since it's actually cheaper to order through the 'net.

8x10 photos from Wal-Mart are just under $3.00 (plus tax) if you order online. And they are printed on a similar "machine" as the one Adorama uses. If one has a membership at Sam's Club, Costco, or the like, it can be even cheaper.

And I stand by what I said concerining file sizes, regardless whether it's for sports personalities or celebrities. I know what I'm talking about. By the way, they don't resize or crop your photos -- you have to do it using the online software they provide on thier site.

Funny, I ordered pics thru a website (snapfish), and since I don't have a credit card I had them sent to the closest Walmart (3 towns over, about 17 miles away) to pay for them in cash. Just as the worker was getting them they asked if I had copyright permission. Of course I didn't, so when I replied "No" they didn't sell them to me. What a waste of gas to go there. Now I'm wondering where to buy photos as I have no printer. Any ideas or store locations anyone could tell me please?

Just looked up the prices online. Should have done it sooner. It turns out to be cheaper to order through Wal-Mart. What you wrote is very deceiving. It's $1.49 plus shipping ($5.95!) so it comes out to $7.44 for a single photo. Unless you order in bulk that's not a very good deal. With Wal-Mart it is 2.84 plus tax and that comes out to $3.07 where I live and I can pick them up at the store with no shipping charges. It used to be cheaper to order them and have them shipped site-to-store (takes 3 to 7 days) rather than using the one-hour service but it's the same price now.

I live near a few Wal-Mart stores. One never gives me a problem but the other one does. At the one that does, I had to sign a form that said I have the right to use the images. It's not a problem since I have no intention of selling them, so I'm not worried about that. But the guy is a bit of a pain (I'm sure he's just doing his job) and I try to avoid going there if I can help it. If I have to use that store I always pre-pay using a debit card. That makes it tougher for him to refuse to give me the photos.

Also, I'm finding that it is best to pre-pay anyway since sometimes the clerk goofs up and rings in the wrong price. By pre-paying for them I can avoid that hassle as well.

Deceiving? Look Ive been collecting autogaphs ttm for years and the biggest trouble I had was with gettign quality photos to send out. I used to buy from Creation Entertainment but they were limited and expensive. I tried Walmart and Walgreens like I said but they didnt even print my photos half the time and the other half they acted weird about doing it. I posted a similar post a few years ago and several people told me Adoramapix worked the best. printed off some photos and got great quality so a few years later Im still using them.

your talking shipping and handling on one photo. they have specials all the time and do deals on the number of photos u have printed. Get them shipped in the same order and pay one shipping cost. Dont actually know the cost of one photo since I get them during a sale and normally buy thirty photos at a time. They also do specials on your first order for joining with them.

Dont know what your love affair with Walmart is but I was answering this guys post from experience and that site is honestly the best one for ttm autograph collecting I have used. As I said I dont want the headache of dealing with a kid questioning me about buying a copyrighted photo Im sending to get auotgraphed for my personal collection.
