I know people have speculated about whether or not he sends out secretarials, but according to the enclosed note, it WAS signed in New York . . .

Address I used was:
Matthew Broderick
"The Odd Couple"
Brooks Atkinson Theatre
256 W. 47th Street
New York, NY 10036

I'm a little confused. The envelope says Los Angeles.....why would it say that if it came from New York?

Not quite sure of the reason, but according to the note, it was signed in New York but must be processed through the Los Angeles office. So I assume he signed it, but it was sent back to LA before being sent out to me.

Sorry to bear bad news (and I'll probably get a warning for saying it), but it's not real. It came back from California because he sends all his fan mail there to have it signed by someone else. It's the exact same person that forges for Paul Newman, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kiefer Sutherland, and a few others. I have the same photo and it was also sent from CA years ago, and I have the newman & Sutherland secretarials to match it to. It's a shame. As much as I hate Pre-Prints I'd rather get them than Secretarials meant to fool a fan. Your only shot at Broderick is outside the theatre and even then he doesn't sign many.

It is a known fact in the Through The Mail Autograph Collecting community (you can do many web searches to verify) that all of Matthew Broderick's TTM autographs are secretarial

If it is a "known fact", would you mind providing some web sites or other reliable material to back up your claim?

Well, I'm sure someone will dispute it, as I know it's difficult to accept that you got a fake. I've been collecting a long time, and I hate admitting to myself that a favorite signature is probably fake.

Here's a REAL Broderick signed outside the Brooks Atkinson Theatre after The Odd Couple, followed by secretarials from Broderick, Newman, Sutherland, and Parker. Whoever does the signing for them varies the signature to suit the person, but it's the same handwriting. I have the same Broderick, and Newman photos with the same signatures, and I also have a Sutherland photo with the same signature. I sent them to PSA/DNA and they all came back as 100% fake, but you can tell that from the photos. I also e-mailed JD Bardwell (the director of the UACC) and asked his opinion and he said it's fairly widely known that they (along with a few other celebs) use the same ghost signer, which was enough to confirm my suspicions. With the Newman photo I have I also got the same "Signed in NY yada yada yada" note, but there are no tax reasons that would make them do this.

I know this still won't be enogh for people to believe, but oh well.

http://www.stararchive.com

There are plenty there. Or you can do your own search at http://www.google.com

It is a collector who has the burden of proof to determine whether a success that they have received through the mail is authentic.
