Is collecting autographs via-fanmail considered weird?

Unread post by gghi18 »

Hello,
Please do not be offended but I wanted to hear some other thoughts on this. The reason I bring it up was because when I was in high school, beginning my collection, I got on the topic of fanmail and the girl next to me referred to people who send fan mail and "Weird" and "Strange" and even went so far as to say it's "Stalker-ish." It kind of hurt my feelings because I think it's a fun and exciting hobby that takes my mind off of stressful things, not some creepy thing.

I prefer not to talk about my autograph collecting to people because I don't want people to make fun of me. I know that's rather silly but I prefer to shy away from potential drama. LOL I only share my successes with fanmail.biz users, my parents and my close friends. My 3 closest friends think it's really cool and love looking through my albums and sometimes I get them autographs of people they really like so everyone's happy. lol :P

But back to the question, is it strange to collect fanmail? I guess it could be strange in certain circumstances but I'm referring to what we do on fanmail.biz. Send and share successes! :)

Thanks for your time!

Sincerely,
gghi18
I appreciate and welcome comments on the authenticity of autographs I have received. Thank you! Sincerely, gghi18 8)

No it's not strange.

People who say it is are obviously jealous of you because you have awesome autographs. And everyone is a fan of someone, so sending a letter to someone you're a fan of to show them your support couldn't be less stalker-ish!

Some people are also just plain ignorant. And if they don't understand the hobby, don't expect them to respect it.

Ignore the haters, haters gonna hate ;)

By the way, fanmail is an extremely good way to practice your handwriting, maths (averaging waiting times, postage, weight, etc) and a fun way to spend free time. So I would consider people that find fanmail weird as:

Weird themselves
Ignorant
Not worth listening to...

LOL! :D

I don't think it is weird all all. It makes you happy and that's all that matters. I think telling people about it is cool because so many people do not know you can write to people and get something back.
I mainly collect voice actor and Disney related autographs-Any questions with Disney successes/addresses? Feel free to PM me!

Well obviously none of us think it's weird lol. But really, I just don't see how it could be considered weird by anyone. My mom and dad really enjoy this being one of my main hobbies, and one of my best friends thinks it's really cool too. She even brought me over a picture of her and signed it "To my number one fan!" - that really cracked me up lol.

I love doing this; I just wish I'd started sooner lol {up} :D

I actually tend to just ignore the people who think what we do is stupid. ive learned that while trying to make the other people happy im unhappy so now while im making myself happy and doing what i love i tell people that they're just jealous because they're to lazy to actually try to get a collection going :)

It is not weird and i will break down why haha..First off it would only be stalkerish if you were writing letters over and over to the same person and not asking for a autograph in return,that would be stalking not writing a letter saying nice things and asking for an autograph.The celebs obviously have no problem with it because they sign the pictures {up} Also the thing is lots of younger people just don't understand the hobby or about writing letters and mailing them,they just think everything is electronic now {down} so they are ignorant to the hobby and how it works.Obviously before email everybody wrote letters to family,freinds,and celebrities.This hobby has been around a long long time and collecting autographs is a respected hobby...Just look at all the people trying to sell autographs {down} Proving how popular autographs still are today {up}

Is it any more weird that old men in safari suits collecting the heads of animals they shot?

Or collecting million year old rocks because they have little bits of fossilized animals in them?

Or collecting million dollar sports cars?

It's just collecting.

Technically it could be an investment if you collected the right autographs.
