Man, that sucks shadow. I hope you get everything sorted out and didn't miss anything too important.

I got an address for Leonard Hankerson that I feel good about and I might try to get something sent there sometime this week. I've sent out quite a few requests in the last week, so I might hold off on sending things out (other than Hankerson) for a while.

Yeah, I'll let you know if I get a response. The address I got isn't his home...so we'll see what happens.

How did you figure out the mailman had RTS'ed half your mail? Why did he do that?

Heh. I always get a tad suspicious during a dead period that my mailman takes a look at my siggys during his break on his route and keeps the good ones,- then all of a sudden I get one back.

In my case, my wife was waiting on a credit card she'd signed up for a couple weeks earlier. She finally called when it hadn't arrived and they told her it was returned. The same thing happened when we called about a doctor bill that we never received. Funny thing is, were were still getting SOME of our mail. I don't know what this guy is thinking, but I'm going to try to catch him today and I'm also calling the post office in a few minutes. Hopefully I'll be able to recover some of this "lost" mail.

So I don't know if this has been done but I wanted to put together a master list of different sites to refer to help people make decisions on their FOOTBALL autograph hunting. I know it's difficult to track these sites as they frequently fall into disuse, but the more we can share the better atm.

Here is a list of many of the references I use:
http://www.freewebs.com/hodgesautographs/ - hasn't been updated since 2010 (addresses)
http://donnasautographwebsite.blogspot.com/ - hasn't been updated since 2010 (addresses)
http://www.tradingcarddb.com/ViewAll.cfm/sp/Football - great reference site for football cards
http://www.sportscollectors.net/PlayersTeams.aspx - good for addresses, tracking, wantlists, response times.
http://jonsautographs.blogspot.com/ - hasn't been updated since 2010 (addresses)
http://www.digiulio.com/sports_address_list.pdf - 2011 pretty nice list! (addresses)
http://www.angelfire.com/mb/markssignin ... allAI.html - gigantic success list
http://pjsautosttm.com/?cat=4 - sporadic entries 2011 (addresses)
http://www.myautographsignings.com/ - in person appearances around LA.

Hope this helps. Any other sites out there- oh and feel free to plug your own.

Wow, thanks leebo! There are a few sites on there I didn't have, can't wait to check them out!

As for my postal issues, I called the post office and they told me they'd look into it and get back to me within 24 hours. I'm really hoping that I can recover at least SOME of the mail that may have gone missing. I think I'll be holding off on sending any requests until I know this is taken care of.

Just a word of advice, those private pages you stumble upon with addresses tend to be the absolute worst. Full of faulty addresses and dudes lying about what they get back. If you believe someone has gotten Tom Brady c/o Patriots 3-4 times over the years, I've got a good one for you. Best to stay away from the "freewebs" and "geocities" and either do your own research or use this site. I use only my own intuition and this site as resources for addresses. I've been burned many times in the past in trusting those free sites but hey, its a free world so if you wanna burn the stamps on them, go for it. I simply won't do it anymore.

-True, you do this at your own risk, and what works for one person may not for another.

I have kindly provided however this starter list for others to look through. I have been highly successful with getting names and autographs utilizing this strategy, especially when combined with sportscollectors.net. Furthermore, utilizing the football trading card database gives you an idea of cards that a particular player may have. The idea is to cultivate a master list of sites for reference. Along the way sites become outdated- that's a given, but I can tell you this: All of us had to come to fanmail at some point doing research, so I know there are people here who will appreciate what I am sharing.

I know everybody gets tired of seeing the "DOES BOBBY JO SIGN?", post or the general "WHOZITZ ADDY?", request when the information is right there on the web waiting for them to find it. This helps alleviate some of that traffic and also encourages people not to be so reliant asking people on fanmail.
