Newbie needs help. What do I send with my autograph request?

Hi, I'm new to this website and found it when I searched for a fanmail address but under ever fan mail address.

Where it tells you how to send fan mail, it says add several IRC (International Reply Coupons) but when I went to the post office it says they don't do IRC's anymore.

I want to send an autograph request to an American celeb but also a British celeb (I live in England).

So, when I write my letter with autograph request, do I send a photo to be signed or do they send their own photo? Do I send a piece of card with it to stop it from bending? and do I have to send any stamps or envelopes inside my envelope for them to use for a reply?

Help would be appreciated.

Always send a handwritten letter of request - don't just say "Hi, can I have your autograph" - explain who you are, why you're a fan and perhaps what you like that they've done.

I always send my own photo and a return self-addressed envelope which is hard-backed to make sure it doesn't bend. If it's a UK based celeb, I make sure the return envelope is stamped, and if it's abroad, I'll include 2 IRCs.

If you can't get IRCs, try another post office - the people at your post office are probably just clueless. If you really can't get them, you can either explain in your letter than you can't get US stamps, or you can send a couple of US dollars.

It's your SASE - you can do what you like with it! Remember, if you bend it, then it can bend when/if it comes back to you - and that can damage the picture. Personally I always send a card backed envelope for protection.
