How did you spend that much in two months?

I'm sure they'll come back and then you send off some more.

How much important is the letter? I mean... Do they really read it?
I've just send a letter to Kunal Nayyar (The big bang theory), an "open-heart" letter and I'm afraid that he'll never read it...

Their sec's read their letters probably more than they do. They also probably decide who gets a signed photo and who doesn't. Especially with how many people sell autographs on Ebay. Sec's probably watch out for that sort of thing. If you don't include in your letter why you like said person, and what you enjoyed that they did their sec is probably thinks you're just collecting autographs to sell.

There was a post somewhere on here by a manager of a band and she explained that she opened all the band's fan mail. The ones that didn't include a SASE I think were thrown out. The letters that were typed were not responded to, and the ones that were short & just asked for an autograph were not replied to - either. So, yes I do believe the letter helps in some cases.

I read through these comments and decided maybe you can help me. So I decided to answer some of the things you guys said.
A. My letters seriously vary. Never shorter then one page, never longer then two. I usually don't mention the autograph until the end. I'll say 'And if you could please return my picture signed that'd be great". Most of the letter is me going on about what I like of theres and how I wished I could see them in concert and yada, yada.
B. I am sending to people I know that reply, along with some that are long shots. I've sent to many people, but off the top of my head: Ariana Grande, Big Time Rush, Britany Spears, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Doug Brochu, Jason Aldean, Miranda Cosgrove, Debby Ryan, Meaghan Martin, the whole cast of good luck charlie, and Big Time Rush and..... mostly teen celebrities. I can't name them all off hand.
C. I spent that much cuz I sent a TON of stuff.
D. My letters are totally open hearted. If i ever write another letter to BTR, which I'm sure I will, I'll scan it first and post it so you can see how ridiculous my letters are.

I still think you need to wait a bit longer. You haven't really given it enough time, yet.

I never meant to imply that you're letters are "ridiculous."

No, I'm not saying you did. I'm saying I think they are because I spend a lot of time on them and they are kinda ridiculous in my opinion.

Oh, I see. Just wanted to make sure that I didn't come off wrong.
On a personal note I think a portion of my letters sound kind of ridiculous too. So I know how you're feeling. It's the part where I'm telling about myself and what I'm interested in, knowing that I don't actively pursue most of my interests... probably because of depression. Just wanted to share to show that I know how you feel about part of your fan mail sounding off.

Oh yeah. Mine become a bore when I get to the part about myself. And my interests.. I don't put any. ID really have any anymore, they all got screwed up by someone or another.

Sometimes it takes a while for a response. I started writing (again) in 2010. Half the requests I'm still waiting for are from 2010. I have others from January of this year right up until now. I've seen some folks on here get a response after 3+ years. It's all about the waiting game with this hobby. True, some may never come back, but I've found the vast majority do. Out of approximately 110 requests since last year, I've received back 80. I think that's a pretty good ratio. Also, if you're writing to mainly teen celebs, I imagine they must get TONS of fanmail.
2014 Successes:
Tom Baker, Patrick Stewart (vv), Peter Cullen, Robin Atkin Downes, Jenna-Louise Coleman, Trace Beaulieu, George Lowe, Joe Dante, Willem Dafoe, Jeffrey Brown, Maurice LaMarche, Alan Oppenheimer, Penn & Teller (last success 10/14/14)
