Getting clear screen shot from a DVD

Unread post by rocksoldier »

Hi,

I do a lot of custom Star Wars stuff, and take a lot of screen shots off the DVD's on the computer, but sometimes im not very happy with them.

Anyone know of a good way to get really clear pictures off DVD's?

Thanks.

By screen shots, I'm assuming your using the 'Prnt Scr' button on your computer?? That's about the best way I know of & have used when I make my custom photos. if you upgraded to a Blu-Ray DVD player for your computer and bought the new SW blu-Ray set you might get better quality, but that would be pretty pricey just for screen shots. lol.

Sometimes trying to capture a good scene is hard to do since everything is moving so quickly, but you gotta learn to be fast on the play/pause button. {up}

Most DVD playing software should have options to advance single frames, as well as capturing the screen, which would be a better method to getting the exact shot you want. Given that DVDs are "moving" and only go up to 720 pixels, it's hard to really get a quality still.. all you can really do is just find that right frame to capture.

I use PowerDVD to play/grab shots. After pausing it has a frame advance feature that can find a less grainy shot, provided the character is not moving. Screengrab then is a camera icon. Any movement lessens the chance of getting a good grab. A little tweeking in Photoshop can fix some shots. This has been hard with the latest trend of using the always-moving POV camera. Nu Battlestar is a good example. I have heard that these types of prgrams don't like Blu-ray though.
