thanks everyone for your wonderful replies its great to know people on here are so helpful. I was hoping I didnt sound stupid or anything, but seriously thank you all so much. Wonderful people
It is just so weird that some people in some post offices anywhere dont know what IRC's are. I managed to get 50 from the main post office here in Brisbane a few weeks ago and they all looked at me so strangely lol they told me they get asked for 1 like once a month or so. I am sure they thought I was kinda sketchy but I didnt mind.

I have gotten back into collecting more recently and send out maybe 60 requests or so a month, roughly. Only a few have come back since about September last year i.e Sarah Wayne Callies, Michael Chiklis and Fred Ewanuick (Corner Gas).
IRC's arent cheap and I realise its a bit different since I first started out in 1997 as IRC's are probably the one thing that has to be sent if you are a collector overseas.
I remember reading some magazine years and years ago and the one thing that stood out was that if you wanted an autograph, you had to send an IRC and affix it to the outside of your envelope. I bloody wish you could still do that.

Wondering who else I might have missed out on because of this.
I'm from South Africa so I also send overseas, mainly to the USA and the UK.
Just like Sasira, I trade with members here at Fanmail.biz for US/UK stamps to put on my return envelopes. {thumb2} My post office also doesn't know what an IRC is, and since I always pay for the return postage, having stamps from overseas to add to my SAE is my only solution. It has worked out great for me so far, and I've been able to receive replies from actors like Shia LaBeouf and Christian Bale (they only reply to people who send SASE's, not even IRC's).
I suggest to try and buy stamps online, because I know IRC's can be very expensive. When sending a SASE (with the correct amount of postage), it's basically the same (to the celebrity) as living in the same country, because they can just sign and post your autograph.
Liz, seriously you are the most helpful member on here.

Hi stellar_fuse! ;)
Not to worry, I don't know of many other agencies who also don't accept IRC's. Those two are the ones I know about off the top of my head. I think some agencies feel it's too much trouble to exchange IRC's all the time. But as I said, IRC's work perfectly fine for most people. {thumb2}
And thank you so much sunkissed08, honey & Jelly_tot. I really appreciate your kind words! I'm glad to hear I can be of help.

I don't usually send a photo out with my requests. Therefore, I don't think it's impolite to not send a photo. I like to see the headshot they send. :razz:
but isnt it kind of not okay to expect the celebrity to provide a photo of their own? I was always of the impression that if people want to send photos thats cool, but if some people dont then as long as they pay the return postage and provide the SASE then everything will be sweet.

Usually a celebrity has headshots they send out and sign for fans. But you got the second part right - If most people pay for postage and send a SASE, the likelihood they'll get their request back. {thumb2} If you want to add your own photos that's cool as well.
cool thanks for that sunkissed08 I always kinda felt guilty not providing a photo. especially if the request is VV. I figured they wouldnt have headshots lying around to sign for people.
