I always send a SASE. In fact my usual proceedure is to send (to non athletes) an index card and SASE. I sometimes send something (a photo or CD booklet etc.) but that is the exception to the rule.
I have, over the years, had about a 50 to 60 percent success rate, and have had many celebrities sign my card AND send a signed photon. Others, of course, send a photo instead of the index card. Recently, the comic Bruce Bruce sent a inscribed (personalized to me photo and a signed Tee-Shirt). Others have sent nice notes etc.
Sometimes, however, if I am trying to get several actors from the same show (for instance I have nearly completed my collection of actors from the TV series "Jericho") I ask specifically for just the signed index card. Then I mount them together (again Jericho would be an example I am mounting them with a Jericho poster)
Hope this helps.

Re: Any Help for Somebody Brand New?
To save on cost you can buy most of your supplies at the dollar store. I've gotten good glossy Kodak paper at my local dollar store (the only problem was that they printed the Kodak logo backwards and that's why it was there. I get my envelopes there (6 - 8X12's come in a pack and 8 - 6X9's). I've gotten address labels at the dollar store, pens, paper, index cards. The only thing I haven't found are 10X13 envelopes and of course stamps you have to buy at the post office.indiix wrote:I have one more question that I thought of after I read something else on here.
Do you ALWAYS have to send a SASE or does that deeply decrease your chances of getting an autograph? And do you always have to send a photo to be signed?
As I'm very young compared to most people here, I don't have a job (aha, yet.....) but must pay for my own supplies. Envelopes such as that and glossy photos are extremely expensive to buy on the money I make from doing chores, and other jobs for neighbors.
Somebody please help me one more little time!
