That is true for UK to UK domestic mail.

Not for UK to Canada which is more expensive. International mail and domestic mail rules are different.

A 100g letter to Canada would cost £3.30

OP is in Canada, so would be looking at the weight of the return envelope and picture(s). You are confusing the situation. They want to know how much postage from UK to Canada for the return items. Not LOR etc.

Prices go up every year as you well know. A stamp stating a value of £0.87 will quickly be insufficient.

2nd class stamps are like US forever stamps. I recommended to use 3 because personally I wouldn't risk using 2.

Guaranteed for 3 years? You obviously missed plans to privatise and sell Royal Mail as well as annual price rises.

Do you really work in a Post Office??

Pretty Sure I work in The Post Office Yes...

Royal Mail or any other Private Investors Will Continue to use the same Postage Needs...
The 87p Stamps will be sufficient for up too THREE years AFTER the date in which Royal Mail Goes Private
as they will stop selling them. From the date they stop selling them any used after 3 years will then
be INSUFFICIENT...

If you want to send anything don't bother buying £1.50 worth of stamps... YOu can nearly get two
87p stamps for that price!

TRUST ME :)

I WORK FOR ROYAL MAIL!

THANKS

Good thing the prices won't go up again soon! I remember last year, they went up a lot!!

Also, for anyone using US stamps, they increased starting today, but just by a little. Forever Stamps are now $0.46 and international stamps are now $1.10.

The current prices are:
£0.87 covers airmail letters up to 10g.
£1.28 is the next price band which is 11g-20g.

Best thing for OP is to weigh his return items which was my original advice. And bear in mind sometimes a celeb will add stuff of their own to the SASE.

With International postage it is always better to over value the stamps. I have many outstanding US requests, i'd be worrying if they only had $1.05 of stamps on, but since I always use 2x $1.05 i've nothing to worry about.

We all know in the UK prices go up every year in April. So a stamp that says £0.87 will be insufficient in a few months. 2nd stamps however retain the current sale value like US Forever stamps.

RM Website states new prices will be published March 2013

So again my advice was to use 3x 2nd because personally I would not risk two.

Everyone's missing a pretty obvious thing here...

I honestly cannot remember the last time I got an item back which weighed under 10grams.

Prices going up this year will not be as drastic as before, as there are caps in place now in line with inflation and a maximum increase, I would expect somewhere in the region of 52/3p for second class come April.

As for stamp values holding on numerically valued stamps, the post a couple up clashes pretty much with the formal advice given by Royal Mail when questioned about it. The quote I got was "that would pretty much defeat the purpose of putting our prices up wouldn't it?".

The poster directly above is 100% right, and I believe I put a price finder link in place as well earlier in the thread ... it's not hard to weigh your item and check what should be on it. I don't see the need to put an extra second class stamp etc on it, as you can buy "make up values" such as 10p stamps which would allow a wee bit extra to be put on to cover potential differentials in international/domestic increases. It's never 100% when mailing abroad, but that's the way to go I would think.

Right now, I still have the benefit of the stamps I bought before the last increase, which are effectively allowing me to post abroad and domestically at a cheaper price, which is handy.
