Re: NFL TTM Thread
I think its qbs no doubt. Generally they are the biggest stars on the team, not to mention they are probably the most famous and well known.

Re: NFL TTM Thread
I've discussed this before. Its by far the RB's and WR's. The primadonnas. The DB's run a close 3rd. QBs are hard once they hit the big-time but QBs are not hard if you catch them in college. The majority of my successes are actually probably QBs. Tebow, Stafford, Luck, Kolb, Hasselbeck, Bulger, Vince Young, Matt Barkley....just a sampling of the QBs I've received TTM. Again, do some research and be early on guys. I've already got dudes done from high school who are college freshmen now (Christian Lemay-Georgia, Max Wittek-USC for example). If you wait too long, you aren't getting anybody. Well, maybe the easy guys but the guys that sign while they aren't swamped with mail, nah. Its all in timing and people don't get that aspect. In some cases because it involves watching or scouting college football and they're completely tuned in only to NFL players.
Re: NFL TTM Thread
I'd say WR is the hardest, only because I've had pretty good luck with RBs so far. I agree you have to catch QBs at the right time, because once they get to elite status forget about it. That's not just true of QBs though, you could say that about most positions. I think kickers are very easy to get too, but I've found that a lot of punters can be difficult. I know that Derrick Frost, former Redskins punter, wouldn't even sign IP, nevermind TTM.

Re: NFL TTM Thread
I'd say that most of the positions pretty much average out. Putting some study towards an idea that one position signs more or less than the other only limits your results. For every quarterback you would say might want to say doesn't sign because it's a marquee position, I can find one who's just happy to have a fan. It's far more driven by ego and personality, than position towards whether or not they will sign.

Re: NFL TTM Thread
I don't think it's a matter of position. I agree it's mostly timing. I got Brady when he was a rookie, a guy like that would probably love to sign for every fan that writes to him but it would be impossible. Drew Brees was signing everything authentically up until about a year ago, now I guess he sends a pre print. There just comes a time when trying to make everyone happy becomes impossible. Send to who you want to send to, just realize that sometimes the stuff you send out isn't coming back. But then again it's awesome to get one back that you really weren't expecting. My longest wait ever was 3 1/2 years for chipper jones, I know it's not football but I never thought it would come back.
Re: NFL TTM Thread
Sure timing is absolutely key, but I think this was more about if there was a position that signs more or less than another.
Everybody has their bag of chips. If you're into grabbing players before they even hit college, then go for it- if that's what interests you. Some people collect autographs from only a certain period of time or card set. I know guys who collect ancient sets of Topps cards and get long hand written letters from players thanking them for remembering their contributions to the sport of football- long after they're not relevant or have entered the HoF. That's their thing. I can't knock it.

Re: NFL TTM Thread
I think this post kind of says it all. It's all in what you like, that is what you collect. For me, I collect mostly past and present Redskins and University of Michigan players, with few exceptions. I've said this before in other posts, collect who and what you like. For example, I just tracked down an address for former Redskins QB Patrick Ramsey. I know pretty much everyone reading this could care less about Patrick Ramsey, but I always liked him so I'll be sending to him. On the flip side I'm sure there will be people who want to send to someone like Cam Newton or Aaron Rogers. I'm not interested, because they're not favorites of mine. I learned a long time ago, it's a lot more fun when you're only collecting what you like. If you try to collect everyone and everything, best of luck to you if that's what you want to do. Collect what and who you like.leebo wrote:Sure timing is absolutely key, but I think this was more about if there was a position that signs more or less than another.

One more point, you never know when you're going to get lucky when you send someone out. Someone like Denard Robinson may get a lot of mail, but you may just hit him at the right time or in the right mood and get him. That doesn't mean you should start writing your letter to Tom Brady, but what I'm saying is you never know who you might be able to get. The Drew Brees example was a great one, the timing was right and he signed until it just got to be too much.
I will also say that no one is obligated to share their successes or failures. We all share of our own free will, as part of the hobby. So thanks to those who do share, because I can say that I personally appreciate it. I have a lot of fun doing this, and hopefully you do the same.
