stamps and do not bend help

So today i semt out 2 auto request through the post office and i wrote do not bend on the front of the envelope so i had them?weigh it and came out to 1 dollar the post lady said 1 and 34 cents extra to makr sure they dont bend it. i dont get why they want an extra 34 cents for it not to get bent. anybody help me with this?

When I asked my post lady the same question she told me it is because they have to take extra care of the package. Normally they would throw a rubber band around a group of them and just shove the letter in the mail box.

weird cause my mail?lady said it goes through a 90 degree slot and it might bend the picture acquardly.?i wonder if anyone has had problems without using do not bend on the envelope.

I have never been charged extra at the Post Office for writing 'Please Do Not Bend', but occasionally I'm asked if I want to buy insurance for it, but I don't ever.

So why?would she cross off plaese do?not bend that i wrote on my envelope. is she even aloud to do that. i just dont see why i have to pay extra to wrife please do not bend. we dont get charge for writing fragile or this side up so why should we pay almost a extra stamp to wirte do not bend.

There is an extra cost to not bend a large envelope, but I usually don't put the extra on my SASEs. I don't know how observant they are with it, but I haven't had something returned to me because I didn't pay the extra "do not bend" cost.

I mail most my letters from home, so I don't take them to the postoffice.

I almost always use the cardboard "photo/document" mailers. They cost more than a regular envelope, but I have never had a damaged photo yet (except when Karen Allen folded an 8x10 photo and put it in a 5X7 envelope).

That's a good investment mhammen. {thumb2} Sorry to hear about Karen Allen FOLDING her photo! Yikes!. for me I use regular #10 Security envelopes for my 4x6's and don't get them bent. & I use orange 9x12's for the 8x10's. I will get an 8x10 "folded" but never bent straight down the middle like some I've seen! And I've never been charged extra for putting DO NOT BEND! on my envelope. either that post lady didn't know or she is making money off of unsuspecting patrons.

I've never been charged extra for writing Do not bend on the envelope, that's so weird, I normally mail mine through the mail box though, I don't go to the post office unless I ran out of stamps.

Your profile says you're from Lowell, MA? Interesting, I live about an hour away from there, went on a Field Trip there in Octoberish, too!

Anyway, you shouldn't be charged extra. I live in MA, too, and I've never been charged. And I really don't understand why the lady would cross that out. Luckily, now you know to put $1.00 worth of postage on, so you don't need it weighed. I recommend just putting $1.00 worth of stamps on for next time! {thumb2}
