German speaker - help me with deutschepost.de?

Unread post by downtoearth »

I mailed a letter to a German footballer (who shall remain unidentified in this post) last year and included one IRC, which wasn't enough. The player's team mailed back my IRC with a note in English saying the IRC wasn't accepted in Germany, and paid the six euro postage themselves. I want another Autogrammkarte from this year so I wrote another letter to send. I thought I had the currency to mail this time, because I *think* I understood from deutschepost.de that the Germany to USA price hasn't changed, but I grabbed the wrong coin and ran around my city to find a place that would be able to give me single euros when I exchanged money. I had completely forgotten that I didn't have any single-euro coins left in my stash from trips to France via Ireland and Spain (trip home via France). The exchange rate was atrocious and I had to pay a $7.95 fee. (When I mailed the letter, I taped a baggie holding a five-euro note and a one-euro coin to the inner envelope, and taped the coin so it didn't move. Then I left my keys at the post office, but that's another story.)

Is there anyone here who can help me translate the DeutschePost website so I might be able to find out if I can buy German stamps and avoid running around like a chicken without a head if I ever want to write to another German footballer? I don't think I've posted enough to be able to trade stamps with anyone yet.

I'm also planning to write to English footballers, but I have no problem with reading the Royal Mail website :-P And if I write to someone in America, I don't have to buy stamps off the website.

i tried to find the info about a shipping of stamps but couldn't find it. i've read they accept credit cards so they maybe ship outside. sorry i know i'm not a big help as i'm from switzerland. if you like i can ask a friend in germany to send you some stamps, which of course won't be for free.

I received a PM about this that said that Deutsche Post only mails stamps within Germany. This might be possible, but one of the pages on the website says it's possible to print out stamps on one's computer. At least I think it does; it's in German. I didn't scan it for very long to see if the postage was only printable in Germany as well.
