A disturbing trend on here.

Unread post by jjjj »

Hello.

Since discovering this site i've tried to be part of the group here and post successes and get involved with the site. This is a good hobby to be in and i take it seriously but yet have fun. Something is bothering me here lately.

Recently i have noticed that certain people on here will claim that some successes are fakes or secs, even though they are not. Deep down i think that people say this because they dont want other people to have a success from that celebrity. It's like they want to be the only one with the autograph that way theirs is much more rarer. Its funny too because some of these same people will post a success as authentic yet when someone else gets the same person they claim it is a fake. Maybe some collectors are jealous of other collectors but personally i think that we should all be here to help each other grow great collections.

I wont go into which celebs i am talking about but i have submitted a couple of my graphs which came back as authentic and yet these people claim over and over that they are fakes. It just really bothers me that someone would lead a fellow collector the wrong was due to greed.

Thanks.

I agree entirely, and personally I don't think someone can make an opinion unless they've seen the autograph with their own eyes, and not just an image on a computer screen.

I once had a collector on here, who mentions all the time that he/she pays for special insider production information, tell me that a movie had stopped filming and therefore he/she wouldn't give me the via venue address. I'd done my research, however, and knew that the movie was being filmed for another month and a half. In other words, he/she knew, because of their 'special' info, that I could have still gotten a success if I'd been given the address, and yet they had chosen not to help me.

Fortunately someone nicer gave me the address and I got that success. I'll never forget it, though. I thought it was pretty classless. From that experience and many more, I've learned that most 'serious' collectors are not very helpful.

I have noticed this too.
Luckily, it is not everyone. The majority of collectors on here are lovely people who are happy for other people's successes.

Has this really been a trend here? To be fair, even though there are a few people here with simply bad intent, I feel some claims are justified. There are some successes that are counted as authentic here that have already been crossed off as fake by other sites, by whatever methods it may be - comparisons to IP signatures, the celebrity known for using a secretary for a long time, dates and location, etc. I generally leave it alone since this forum seems to like to attack any form of criticism, but I wouldn't say a lot of these people do it out of jealousy or greed.

Agree 1000000%.

This site is full of greedy, selfish, and jealous members. They do exactly as you mentioned by caliming something is fake when they believe the one they posted is real. Why? Only logical answer is they don't want anyone else to get them.

The witholding address thing, it shouldn't be allowed. If you can't follow the guidelines for posting a success, the thread should be deleated.

Another thing I REALLY hate is when someone gets a success for a different address but claims it came from the "database".

If someone posts a pacino, Robin Williams, SJP, or other "known" sec sender why post "Sorry but it's a sec." If Joe Johnson is thrilled to have something signed by "Robin Williams" let them be happy. It dosen't effect you so don't post. And the "Isn't it better to let them know the truth?" NO, NO they don't care. If they did they would already know about it.

And last but not least, the same 3 or 4 minions who constantly post "Fake, AP, PP, sec." when they have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. One person in particular will read someones comment then sing it like gospel. Not all 15 year old's are stupid, but when someone just started in this hobby is making authenticity comments backed by ZERO documentation it bothers me.

yeah i agree as well.. :) however there are poeple on here who do know what they are talking about so when someone does say "its a sec" or something like that all i can really say is "ok, that was nice, thanks for your opinion"..because they werent there when it was signed.

another i dont like is when someone asks me "why i want alot of britney spears" you have NO IDEA how much i adore miss spears and honestly its not affecting any of you so whats the big deal? {up}

but overall i like this site...90% of the people are really great and i have been trying to work on my certain attitude i have so yeah..i love it here! :) {??}

I've noticed it, not on so much a large scale, but yeah that type of attitude does linger around.
