Pretty good free agents this offseason:
Cliff Lee (Of course)
Derek Jeter (I don't believe it)
Jayson Werth
And a total of 127 including the above. Hopefully the Braves get who they need.

Cliff Lee is going to set off a bidding war of course, as would Jayson Werth I'd imagine, but I feel like whichever teams end up with them will get less than what they pay for. Jeter had an awful season and is approaching his late 30's, I doubt any team would really want him other than the Yankees.

Not really a whole lot of great players hitting free agent, but there's a good amount of serviceable players, and a lot of players recently removed from their prime or had an off-year that would make good low risk, high reward signings.

Yankees previously fired pitching coach Dave Eiland and are now looking at signing Gil Patterson

I've been watching the IL and PCL transactions lately to see who's been getting DFA'ed. The MLB teams have until midnight on Nov. 19 to set their rosters in advance of December's Rule 5 Draft. Nobody really notable though, with the possible exception of former Twins starter/reliever Boof Bonser. Poor guy got traded last fall for a AA prospect, left the Red Sox organization in mid-summer when he got DFA'ed by them and wound up signing with Oakland. He just got DFA'ed again. The most he can do is become a minor league free agent.

And really, does anyone expect Jeter to go anywhere? I don't think they Yankees will pull a Bernie Williams on him. Not on the captain of the team.

Fits right into the way the Pirates like to operate... Get 'em while they're down, hope they turn things around, and then trade them away for prospects.

I don't think Jeter would go to another team, but there's been some talk about him possibly moving to another position. It makes sense to get him out of SS where he's a liability, but basically every other position is already filled by a better player. He could DH, but his bat's declining and there are better options.

Can't blame the Pirates if they go that route, I'd probably do it too if I ran the team. If they pulled off enough trades in a shorter timespan, they could put together a winning team, but it always seem like they're doing it slowly.

Jeter could probably move to third, while Rodriguez could shift back to SS. There is supposedly a player being groomed to eventually take over the position, last year's no. 1 draft pick Cito Culver. He's probably a few years away from the MLB though. I don't know what his stats were like last year, I'll admit. But from what I've heard, I could see him starting in short-season A this year and maybe finishing up in AA. Switching Jeter and A-Rod around could buy them time until Culver is ready to move up.

I think tomorrow is the last day for eligible players to file for free agency. I haven't checked the list today, but as of yesterday the most notable guy I saw who filed was Ryan Langerhans.

The cut-off date to file has been pushed up from 15 days to 5 days after the end of the World Series this year. Anyone know why?
