The King's Speech (from October)

Unread post by goodgunnerwenger »

Sorry I haven't posed this sooner, but I've had a lot on.

On 21st October it was The King's Speech premiere in London, (supposedly) starting at 5:30 so I got there at about 2:30. There was hardly anyone there until about 4:00 when they started putting up barriers. By 5:00 there was quite a crowd, although not as many as I thought there would be. I was hoping to get as many of the stars as possible (Helena Bonham Carter, Geoffrey Rush, Colin Firth all feature in it). Unfortunately, Michael Gambon was performing in the West End so he didn't appear. I was also optimistic about getting Tim Burton, as he is Helena's partner. Apparently Dizzee Rascal showed up for a few minutes, but I didn't see him. I got a good position opposite the entrance. Soon the less well known actors appeared. Ben Kingsley walked by without signing anything, posing in front of the media with his beautiful wife. Although I didn't recognise him, Guy Pearce turned up and signed a few things. It was bitterly cold so I knew I wouldn't get a lot particularly as there was a big group of dealers who all screamed at the cast and shoved everyone with their clip boards and folders. As it was my first premiere, I was a bit unnerved by all the pushing and noise. Helena Bonham Carter came soon after, but all she did was talk to the media, a real disappointment. At least she signs TTM. Timothy Spall next appeared. Unfortunately all I heard was people calling "Tim, Tim!" so I assumed it was Tim Burton. As he signed my autograph book and he gave me back my pen, I said "Thank you, Mr Burton", causing him to give me a cold stare and walk off muttering darkly.

However before long, Tim Burton did turn up, signing only about three autographs, including one for me! He smiled and shook hands with people before walking quickly into the warm cinema. Then Colin Firth turned up. He signed a few autographs at the end before talking to the media for a long time. Time ticked by, and I was getting anxious. Geoffrey Rush was signing quite a lot down the end but Colin and Helena were still doing interviews. At last Geoffrey came down my end, doing some interviews before signing a bit. I was shoved against the barrier as ten dealers leant over me. One man was screaming "Geoff, Geoff" and others were hitting me with their items they wanted to be signed. I thought I might be lucky but Geoffrey stopped signing at the person next to me. Helena, Colin and Geoff posed for photos, before Geoffrey and Helena walked inside. Colin was still signing a bit, getting nearer and nearer to me. His PA was nagging him to come inside but he kept saying "one more". I was crushed against the barrier by the dealers but managed to stick my book out for Colin and luckily I was the last person he signed for. The media soon packed up and the crowd began to disperse.

Despite the behaviour of the dealers, I had a great time and managed to get three signatures.
