Bart Star - Price List (Non-Success)

Unread post by ranbowski »

(1) Price List

Bart Starr (NFL)

Mailed: 1/17/12 (2 - 4x6)

6 Day Turnaround

Received: 1/23/12 Returned Pictures Unsigned w/ Pricelist

Anyone on here who knows me knows how I feel about pricelists. I don't say anything about it because of the sport nuts on here who are willing to pay for autographs tend to get a little over emotional about what I have to say. So I am not looking for any feedback on here, just want to say on a scale of 1 to 10 there is a reason I rank a pricelist even below a rejection letter or a secretary.

Ranbowski, I agree with you about PLs. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and we respect it; we're entitled to our opinion, and it should be respected.

I've got a TTM from about 3 years ago from Starr. Price listing must be a new thing for him. Inscribed it "Super Bowl I & II MVP" on it.

I have been collecting for a hobby for over 20 years, and have never sold a 1 autograph, but my personal opinion is that I really can't say I blame athletes for charging anymore, considering how there have been some bad apples who have sent a handfull of things to get signed, and then they turn around and sell them on ebay, card shows, etc. These players are the ones who played the game that made them as great as they were, why shouldn't they make a few bucks off of their sig, and keep people like us trying to make money off them. Yeah, I hate the fact of paying for autographs, but I have.. and have paid big money to meet Hall of Famera at the National show. This goes along the lines of ghost signers, auto pen and sec. autographs. If the athlete doesnt wanna take the time to sign it, why can't they just send us the item back and not ruin it by basically lying to us about our "signed" item. Just my opinion... Happy collecting!!!!!

Three responses to anyone who defends atheletes for charging. Not looking for a response, this is just my opinion.

A) There are many actors out there who had some great movies in the 60's & 70's and I would say 95% or greater don't charge for autographs.

B) People might say that they didn't get paid a lot of money then. That's understandable... until I found out how much they make for each public appearance.

C) They don't like people getting items sold on EBAY that they signed. Simply sign one item per a request & make sure to personalize it. That destroys the value of it.

A... Most people on here are not looking for autographs from actors from the 60's and 70's, they are wanting people of today. You can see this just by looking at the feedback. Yes, there are some people going after the older stars, but the majority are after today's names.

B... What does it matter how much someone gets paid for a publis appearance? They deserve to get paid for that, just as they deserve to get paid for doing autograph shows. They get paid to sign autographs for 2 hours at a show, but then you always have a few people in line who walk up with a case of baseballs, half a dozen mini helmets, a stack a photos, etc. (I have seen this happen alot.) As for non signing events, picture this, you Michael Jordan and you are offered 25 grand to go to a grand opening of a business.. Why not get paid, you are bringing in all kinds of people for that business, who in turn will be making more money. Thats why you see so many casinos bringing in musical acts for shows. Casinos pay on average 150-300 grand for the average musical act, which is almost 6 times what they get paid for a normal show, yet the casino knows just by brining them in, that they will make their money back with the tables, slot machines, drinks and food. So as the always say, no matter what the casino always wins. Do I feel they charge way to much, yes. Do I think they are looking for a quick buck, yeah. Can they get by with it as they know they are in demand, yes.

C... I have a feeling 15-20 years ago, most of the people did sign for their fans. Yes, they can personalize the autograph and ruin the value. The sad/pathetic part of it is though.. and I would have NEVER believed this until I seen it, but I have seen dealers cut autographs out of cards and frame it with a photo so it was considered a "cut" item. As for the 8x10's, depending on the quality of photo paper used, you can even erase the personalized part on the photo. I have no problem with them personalizing my photos. Have you ever noticed that some people on here when posting feedback will have issues with athletes because they send 3 or 4 things, and only 1 comes back signed, and then they bash the athlete becasue they feel they "deserve" to have all of their items signed. Its those people who are ruining it for the rest of us.

Just my thoughts...

Understand I am a very resonable person. I beleive no one over the age of 70 should sign anything unless they want to, same goes for those under 18. But between 18-70 you owe your fans for your success. Most of the people who defend the pricelist are those looking for sports autographs. Us who truly seek an autograph from a fans side would prefer it to be personalized. I am just giving my opinion like yours, however since I am posting about Bart Star most of the people responding will be sports collectors. If someone wants to sign for $40 a pop, then go for it, however that attitude is what has pulled me away from being a fan of certain sports & certain teams. It kind of reminds me of hearing "Dwayne Wade" recently talk about how he believes people in the olympics should be paid. Sports figures want to be paid for everything, no matter if it competing for the pride of your coutry or if it's for a signature. It's ultimately just sad.

That was my last reply to this post. I know if I keep on then I'll end up with 20-30 post from different people saying the exact opposite of what I believe in. Nothing's going to change, I have my of looking at things and am sure everyone else does to.
