Via Venue Address Howto Question.

Hello,

I tried searching for the answer, but really didn't find anything. I was hoping that someone might be able to help me answer a general question about via venue attempts.

When writing to a performer at a venue, such as a concert, what special considerations should I take in addressing the envelope? I would assume that the basic format would be the same for someone who is performing at a venue for a longer duration (such as a movie set, or long-running play, etc.).

So, this much I would do:

Artist Name
c/o Venue Name
Venue Address
City, State Zip

But, do you put something about holding for a specific date, or other information to help make sure that the venue passes on the mail? Am I worrying to much about this and should treat it like I would a Broadway show and assume that the venue would know to hold the mail for somone arriving?

Hey there-
All you have to do is address the envelope like you have it. There is no necessity for dates, etc. Just address the envelope how you would regularly do it. If the venue is a short run, you should aim to get your letter there no earlier than 3 or 4 days before the celeb is due to arrive otherwise you might end up with a RTS. Hope this helps! You should address your request as you have posted, and there are no needs for dates. You can write something like "Please hold for..." at the top of the Artist's name if you wish, but it's not neccessary.

Like cernan said, you should aim to have your request arrive 3-4 days before the artist performs (up to 1 week in advance.) This is so the venue doesn't lose your letter or forget to pass it on.

It's a bit different with movie sets or venues where a celebrity will be performing for a longer run. In which case, you can send your request some time while they will be filming/performing.

As for writing to artists at venues, it may be worth while to check whether they do pass on mail or not. Some venues refuse to do so, while others happily agree. You should contact a venue (e.g. a concert venue) to see whether they will pass on mail. It's also advisable to include an item to be signed, as the person you wish to write to in question may not have anything available as this will only be a temporary address. Don't forget to include your SASE's.
