Sending autographs to baseball players

Should I wait until the season starts? I am sending stuff to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Has anyone ever sent anything to the Pirates Spring Training site?
I am a survivor of the Pittsburgh Pirates 20 year drought and the Dave Littlefield Era.
